Re: Compressed Air Filter

I run one on our plasma table. It does make consumables last a long time vs before without it. I'd definitely buy it again. If they do get wet, they don't come apart.

Solar Flux?

I've got some stainless to weld shortly that is going to be a pain to try to backpurge. I've heard about using solar flux but have never tried it. How well does it work? Which one do you guys use?

I bought a chinese one myself originally. It beat the hell out of not having one. That said, I now have a thermal dynamics 80.

I keep thinking about making something similar. Thanks for sharing these with us. How rigid is it when they are all tight? I kinda worried about it being to wobbly to really be useful.

Re: Dump bed jack stands

I have been using the 6x6 method backed up by the support rod. I don't like it as I don't feel it's as safe as it could be. We had to replace the scissor hoist on this truck so we knew we wouldn't be able to use the prop rod as a backup. Also we're having to rig in a whole new scissor hoist so the 6...

Dump bed jack stands

We have to replace a dump bed hoist for a friend of mine on his work truck. I needed a good way to support the dump bed so I built some stands to hold up the bed. These are a copy of a commercially available stand that we made for ourselves. I drew up a rough sketch and figured my angles first. I cu...

Re: Welding Contaminated Aluminum

Remember there's nothing wrong with doing a cleaning pass or two with the tig torch prior to actually welding the casting. It seems to really help on some of them.

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Finished up a repair on a bellhousing today. I was putting a engine in a GMC C6500 chipper truck when I found the top of the bellhousing had broken off. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa63/Griffs_photos/20160604_143125_zpsoehq4qxy.jpg Thankfully the piece was held on the back of the block with a...

Re: Buildpro table?

I really really like my table so far. I'm regretting putting off buying it for as long as I did. I bought the 120 piece tooling kit. I can see the need for having more tooling depending on the project. This will at least get me a good start and I can ad to it as I see fit. I wiped down the plates wi...

Re: Buildpro table?

I already put it to use this morning. This is the pieces for a skid steer quick attach plate. They are outside corner joints around the edge that I don't want any overlap of material on so they are very hard to line up normally. I have to get someone to hold them. I was able to use 4 stops on the pi...

Re: Buildpro table?

I bought it from Industrial-toolcrib which is part of or somehow connected to Lehigh Valley Abrasives. I got the 94x46 table and the 120 piece tooling kit. I've got enough room for the table and I didn't want to have to buy another one later. A lot of our customer projects are around 4 to 5 feet. I'...

Yeah some anti spatter spray would probably be good. I'll send Jody a message and see what he says about it. I ordered my table last week. I can't wait until it gets here.

Re: Buildpro table?

Thanks. Sounds like it's mostly for corrosion protection. I don't have any problem with my mill or lathe getting rusty so I think I'd be ok. I think I'll save my pennies. How are the tables as far as weld splatter sticking to them? I've ordered from Trick Tools severals times before. I bought four o...

Buildpro table?

I run a small fab shop and I'm thinking about buying a buildpro table to help us out with projects. It's just me and a part time employee so I'd like to have something that helps me hold things in place since a lot of the time I can't get anyone to hold stuff for me. We do a good bit of small repeti...

Re: Aluminum tig filler rod

Keep your 4043 as well for castings. For me it seems to work better on a nasty casting repair. I like 5356 for welding 5052 and 6061. I've been meaning to try out some 4943 at some point. Also try wiping down your filler rods with acetone if you are having contamination problems. Sometimes it makes ...

Re: Who runs a filter on there watercooler?

I wish I had on my old Dialarc250. I had it eat two torches and the coil got clogged up. Apparently my pump is plenty healthy as it popped the coil on the cooler when it clogged. Coolant had been changed several times in the machine that I know of.

Re: Wireless foot control

I have the miller one and absolutely love it. It's been problem free. I never realized how annoyed I was dragging around the cord to the foot pedal. Seems like I spend more time welding and less time fussing around with stuff now. If you sat in one spot at the bench all the time welding I guess it w...

Hello from Alabama

Hey guys. I own a small fabrication/welding shop near Huntsville, AL. I started welding in high school and really liked it. I've always been a gearhead so the two go hand in hand. I'm in my thirties now and still welding. We do MIG, TIG, and Stick in the shop. I also have a CNC plasma table so we cu...
