Re: Tig welding and lay wire technique

I find if i have a more heat tolerant piece i can get away with lay wire alot better than something im running on the edge of melting through. So ya if you can get away with it go for it. but if you need the cooling effect of freezing the puddle with the filler wire then dont do it.

Re: What is in your torch collection and how are you using t

At work I use a watercooled CK Flexloc and it is incredible. I wore out a couple standard flex torches trying to get down in intakes etc. But the flexloc is great. 230 amp watercooled max (ive pushed beyond for a minute or so no problems) and you can also get an aircooled version that maxes out arou...

Re: AC TIG Machine for use in home garage

Everlast all the way man the 185dv is a good starter. Not much goes on with 3/32 tungsten over 180 amps and with the built in 1hz and 50hz pulse setting its easy to get a good looking aluminum bead going early in the game.

I have/had a pyrex cup and although it is really cool looking they are very easy to mess up. And they get dirty pretty easily. A small bit of molten aluminum got on the side of mine and when i chipped it off some of the pyrex came with it

Re: Tungsten questions

I usually just sand, or sharpen off the material that sucked onto the piece of tungsten, but too many times doing this you will notice ill effects (splitting, balling etc...) So I welded some tin snips off to the side of my desk and I use them to snap off the last 1/4" or so of tungsten and the...

Guys/Gals: I've read that the tungsten makes a HUGE difference when welding aluminum and most of the Chinese brands are less than desirable quality. What say you? Do you recommend any specific tungsten brands? Thanks This is with the cheapest tungsten on amazon (autobody now 2% lanthanated) You wil...

I used this and had good results but still prefer 2% lanthanated. I buy the cheap 2% off of Amazon by the brand Autobody Now. something like 15$ for 10 Sticks of 3/32" so not bad at all.

Tig welding off of a portable generator

Anyone see why I would be doing harm to either the generator or my welder by running my tig welder off of it. I didnt know if pulsing would fry the voltage regulator in the generator or if the welder evens out the power demands with capacitors etc. I have an everlast 256s that says it requires "...

I feel I did a disservice to this beautiful CnC intake by welding Nitrous nozzle bungs into it. They also required me to polish all of the sugaring around the weld so in doing so it polished the weld too. I dont know dont be too hard on me :) http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr24/wranglerftw/20161...

Re: Ok what am i missing, different connector?

I got one of the Ck adapters and the lug on the dinse connector was too far back towards the welding lead and i had to grind almost 1/8" off of the locking lug on the side before it would fit in my machines at work. (dynasty 350 and everlast 256si)

If you are willing to try another welding helmet, I would recommend the Miller digital series. They have what they call X-Mode which is not light sensitive but rather senses electromagnetism (same 1/10000 of a second reaction time) and I use it all the time. Plus they are great helmets and are reaso...

Re: One weld bad one good. Need help!

I use a $15 harbor freight air grinder with a Roloc attachment, and 3m Scotchbrite roloc pads (maroon) to clean my aluminum. Simply run it over with that and blow it off. Ironically I believe the abrasive in these pads is aluminum oxide, but all the impurities seem to blow away and I rarely have pro...

I weld with a Miller Dynasty 350 at work and my Everlast 256s at home, and except for some extreme circumstances I can do everything with my Everlast that can be done with the miller. Not to say you cant with the CK or the Lincoln but for the price I really believe Everlast is the best. Perhaps an e...

Re: converting a tig torch for new machine

The CK adapter from Dinse 50 + everlast quick disconnect gas to 3/8-24RH is what I use on mine. side note: It is easy to take apart and pull the torch out between machines. For example I use a small stick welder as a power supply for portable tig welding. And my torch screws into the stinger adapter...

Re: noob: gray finish on mild steel

All of these suggestions are good. Using a gas lens is great, cooling the piece will help for practice (watch out for hardening carbon steels), and closer arc length would be my remedies. I would also however overlap your beads by about 50% to practice keeping a straight line, as well as amperage co...

That is why I'm so baffled, It is randomly happening on welds like this where a small impurity or bubble (guesses) floats to the top and causes a leak in the fuel tank =/

Pinholes on .090" Aluminum

I am getting small pinholes that leak on some 3003 aluminum that I am welding into fuel cells at work. If i go back over the welds it usually fills the pinholes but it is time consuming and I have to seal the tank to test for these. I have brushed the surface of this weld to better see the pinhole. ...
