Re: Motorcycle cylinder head and air pockets

When I did 2 strokes in the past, I soaked the head in Acetone for about 3 hours to get everything good, and clean, then if I had issues , I would heat it up a few times let it cool ,and re soak it. That seemed to work every time for me.

You can braze copper with silicon bronze, get it really clean. I don't know what you are working with , but thin stuff is a real challenge.

Solar flux is what you need, but it will leave a grey glass like coating as it bakes in, and it isn't food safe.

Re: What's up with this?

Sorry guys. I was using this weld as a before grinding view. It's not that big. It's 1/8" material. The little divot at the end wasn't the issue. I think after it's ground it seems to have some porosity hidden under it and I'm not sure why. I brush it and use acetone but I guess it's still not...

Yes keep a clean tungsten , and have enough stick out to get a nice tight arc , and make sure your surface is clean.

Not weldporn quality, but you probably will grind most of it off anyway, and they should function just fine.
It looks like you got plenty of penetration.

No it is off a Dyna 3/4" axle and trust me I know all about Harley and there Tech I have been wrenching on them for over 15 years professionally and own my own shop working on nothing but HD's. On the Dyna Models with the 3/4" axle the torque spec. is 60-65 ft lbs. I figured to use 70s2 b...

Why not buy a piece of unglazed ceramic tile, snap off or cut bits to fit around it , and tape it with aluminum duct tape?

You can bet if it's Harley it isn't anything special. I ride one,but they boast old tech.
Is that swing arm off of a touring bike? I ask because if it is my rear 1" axle is torqued to 105 foot pounds, and mine is an 03.

I have done this type of thing before, and I found a piece of tube that both pieces fit in , and cut a window out on it, and slid in the pieces welded them, and left them in the tube to cool, they stayed pretty straight.

I use the same tungsten for everything, and have not had a problem at all. There may be a case some day where they say you have to use a new tungsten , but I haven't seen that yet.

Looks real good, now challenge yourself , try to weld a piece of 22 gauge disk to a piece of 14 gauge tube, with the tube passing through the 22 gauge. I am saying this is hard , because I just had to do it 48 times, and I didn't get really good at it until the end.

It's a Raptor 14" the 304 stainless is 14 gauge , we cut some 1/4" x2 inch bar with it too.

304 Stainless square tube

I have an evolution chop saw with a stainless steel blade , and it is pretty much trash in one day of cutting 1 1/2" square tube.
How do I make the next one last?
I tried cutting with no pressure to start, and then shot it with wd-40 , and the blade is cutting pretty bad.

Not really, because the idea is that copper coated bbs wouldn't stick to your weld. I thought that copper shavings from a lathe would work pretty well.

Hit the pedal with the torch near your ear , do you hear gas? Wondering if you have a big leak somewhere?
Is your tungsten eroding really quickly? The curve ball you are throwing is that it works on stainless.
