Out of the blue question

when you feed the rod forward using both these methods, are you actually dipping into the pool, or are these methods just to gain more wire infront of youre hand so it doesnt get too close to the heat/torch? Thanks.

That is interesting. I have a speculation as to why this post is a cut and paste with "my friend" added, but I won't share it as I won't spoon-feed a possible explanation. I'll wait to see niftyweld's explanation, assuming he offers one. Steve S what is the correct working pressure for ox...

Re: How to Convert a Stick Welder into a TIG Welder?

Here's an excellent video on that very topic: http://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/scratch-start-tig-setup.html Please note the power cable adaptor is electrically hot, so you may want to figure out a way to insulate it. A subsequent video shows enclosing it with a plastic water bottle to prevent ac...

How to Convert a Stick Welder into a TIG Welder?

it says there are 3 steps, so you guys tell me

First change the polarity to D/C Electrode (-) negative.
Second take a air cooled TIG torch and hook it up to the stinger or electrode holder.
Third take the gas supply hose and attach it to a regulator on a bottle of Argon. :D :D

Should i sharpen it as soon as it dulls?

Filled a couple holes in a backbone and ground them down smooth. The sharp point on the tungsten dulls fairly quickly. Now I want to fill the small creases/ crevices in the weld. What's the best way? Same amperage or less?

Re: Tig rods for gas brazing?

It’s all basically the same, copper plus silicon or aluminum to lower the melting point and help it wet. The technique is to use the tig torch to just almost melt the base metal but not quite. The arc is directed on the filler rod and it wets out and makes the weld like flowing butter. Some header co...

How do I prevent tungsten contamination and discoloration?

How to use tungsten to touch the weld pool without causing so much of contamination. Can this problem be resolved by moving the torch farther or closer from the work piece? Well, I know touching the filler metal to the tungsten can be a source of contamination, but is there no clear solution to fix ...
