Re: Learning the engineering behind metal structures

Just a guess but a 4 ft x 8 ft top will need a 6 inch or 8 inch pedestal post. But probably only a 3/8 plate 18 inches by 36inches. Edit You will need a more substantial base plate or legs to spread out the weight and stabilize it. Like 2ft by 5.5ft. Ah, I was planning on bolting it to a plate that...

Learning the engineering behind metal structures

I'd like to learn about the engineering behind metal structures so I can plan out projects with the correct materials and welds up front. For example, I want to build a table that is has a wood top of about 200 lbs, 4x8 feet in dimensions and suspended by a single cylindrical pedestal at its center....

Lincoln Square Wave 200

This sounds like a strange question but is having Tig and stick welding good enough, or is not having a mig welding going to be problematic? I do realize it is kind of an open-ended question because this is very application specific. I am aware tig welding is slower, but you do end up spending a lot...

Safely transport Oxygen and Argon with a truck

Hey there, I've got a standard pickup truck and I'd like to be able to transport a 120 CF cylinder of Oxygen and exchange it for a 120 CF cylinder of Argon at a local shop. I talked to the shop and they are willing to do it, but I have to get the cylinder there and back. I can't strap them up right ...

Re: Best welding helmets

I've been very happy with my Jackson Safety BH3. I've seen it for $500 at a few welding supply stores but found it on amazon for about 295 ish.

Lincoln square wave 200 and 22 gauge steel

Hey there, I want to buy a tig welder for myself and I'd like to be able to weld 22 gauge steel. I've heard some complaints about the square waves harsh start but I'm wondering if 22 gauge steel is thick enough that it won't be much of an issue. Or if it is going to be an issue, what things I could ...

Miller Dynasty 210 DX

Seems like every review of this machine was done by someone who has a channel sponsor of Miller, or was wearing a miller jacket. So it's hard for me to get a sense of how good this machine is when everyone reviewing it has some brand loyalty. That's one of the things I like about this place is that ...
