Re: Silverware art tips/questions

Also vote for silicon bronze. 1/16". DC just enough heat to melt the silicon bronze to the sst maybe 30-40 amps? If the filler is turning dark, back off the heat. I "welded" stainless to aluminum with silicon bronze when I was bored one day. think I went AC for that. There isn't a who...

Re: Water cooled torch - repair or replace?

usaweld 12' with rigid head as low as $135 delivered. ( I believe these are actually CK torches.) The braided rubber lines are so much nicer to work with. If you were able to wear out your torch, I think you deserve to treat yourself to a nice one.

Re: Welding Tips & Tricks Podcast

Not with anyone that pushes mig and calls hisself a welder! (you need to listen to the podcast to get the joke) But seriously, I won't be going this year, but it does sound really interesting. I would much rather go to something like that as opposed to Fabtech.

If you are doing it for a hobby I think you effectively can, but it doesn't sound like as much fun. :D

Re: Welding Tips & Tricks Podcast

Guys, I really liked the tig aluminum specifics episode. Would definitely like to hear other material specific topics. How about a metal finishing discussion too? LOL moment. Roy: "wow that is really good info. I'm definitely going to print that off...when I find my printer" (possibly para...

Re: Inverter machines ... good and the bad

If I'm thinking about this right, having a water cooled torch and a decent size argon bottle makes many of the welders equally portable. You pretty much need a cart to move the setup, so how much more portable is a dynasty than a synchro at that point?

Re: Inverter machines ... good and the bad

I dunno where they got the pricing. Maybe the salesman lied because he didn't want to spend any money on the welder? I do know the welder did not work as a result of a mechanical part, and that was the point. Big old welders are sometimes dusty in someones shed because they are broken. YMMV. Not try...

Re: Inverter machines ... good and the bad

The theory is that transformer machines will last due to not having moving parts. However allow me to offer empirical evidence to the contrary. An friend of mine wanted a big ole' tig so I helped him find a 90s vintage synchrowave. He got it to his shop and was doing a couple test welds and could no...

What ex said, except my electric meter is too small for baloney. I only have a 30 amp breaker available to my garage right now and I can max out my 210 on ac aluminum and not trip the breaker.

I'm hoping for an April fools version. Have Bob Clagett on to discuss the new wood filler for tig that the 3d printing community stumbled on or some such foolishness.

Re: Welding Tips & Tricks Podcast

I listen to every episode Monday-Tuesday on my work drive. Haven't missed one yet. Jonathan has posted in this very thread a few times.

I don't care for the how to parts about youtube, instagram or business as much as hearing how the guests got into welding. The stories are the best part for me.

Re: Welding Tips & Tricks Podcast

Got into some good stuff on the "mig" welding episode. Roy, thanks for asking the which knob question. I'm sure many people will benefit from delving into that.

Definitely look forward to another ramble about mig that spends a little more time in the advanced area.

The squarewave 200 has stick mode. 90 amps on 110, 170 amps on 220. Is that kinda what you were thinking?

Re: Miller v Lincoln

You are spot on there, Lincoln is definitely missing a middle range inverter. If they made one, I would have gotten that instead of the dynasty 210. The precision tig is a much nicer machine than the synchrowave, too bad there isn't an Apsect 250 or something.

Not sure where you are looking? From what I can see, Lincoln's lowest and highest end tigs are inverter. All the mig and mp machines up through powermig are inverters.

One of the four of you guys should do a quick supporting video on Chris's "pacman" description. I think that creates a great visual for people who are trying to learn on their own. Little things like that and Jonathon's way of explaining (paraphrasing) "to let the puddle melt the fill...
