Re: Everlast welders or never last welders

I bought an Everlast DV200 a cpl years ago and it had some problems while welding on AC. It was acting as if the polarity would switch to DC randomly which basically ruined whatever I was welding. I told Everlast about this and they sent me a new circuit board which didn't solve the problem. What th...

Re: 1% vs 1.5% vs 2% Lanthanated??

I've noticed that 2% seems to be more durable in that it retains a point better than anything else I've tried. And there seems to be a noticeable difference between that and 1.5% in that regard.

Of course you're going to see a bigger difference on AC rather than DC

Re: fusion tacking

160 amps for 0.060 material is wicked high. Lower your amps. Agreed. I'm at 80 amps on 16g stainless which generally requires less amperage than carbon steel, but I would still be somewhere around there for it. Also if you find yourself in a position that you can't tack the back side you can always...

Re: Quick newbie question about amperage.

Do yourself a huge favor and get yourself a 4.5" angle grinder with a hard (usually black) grinding disc Why hard? I thought those went out with pure tungsten lol Just playin. I used to use those but even after all the fillings fell out of my teeth because of the vibration I still couldn't fee...

Re: Pulse vs. Pedal

I'm a mostly pedal pulser except for stainless. This is .083"4130 chromoly. The machine was set(if memory serves) to around 140 amps. Note the color and lack of HAZ. Anyone that tells you manually pulsing with the pedal increases heat is doing it wrong

Re: How do I prevent blowing out the beginning/end of a weld

As already has been posted, I usually put a tack on the end to absorb some of the heat. Obviously you'll want to gradually decrease the amperage as the part heats up

Re: Quick newbie question about amperage.

The one amp per thousandth gets you in the ball park. I like to have a good amount in reserve so I can move faster by pulsing the pedal to control heat

I used 308 filler and aluminum backing. At some point previously someone attempted to weld one of the cracks. Its now in the hands of the polisher

Re: Tight arch???? Please teach me!

I don't know what the dime trick is but it sounds like you might be moving too slow. Of course arc length is a factor as maintaining the tungsten is critical in focusing the heat where you want it. As close to the action as you can get. I've never been too concerned with color and I wouldn't worry t...

Re: How to weld 0.025” 6061-T6 aluminum?

The only picture I'm seeing is of the fitting. An image of the specific joint you're welding would be helpful. I wouldn't use lacquer thinner, I'd use acetone. Search 'acetone vs lacquer thinner'. If that welder doesn't go down to somewhere around 5 amps on AC you'll have a really hard time welding ...

Re: Which Everlast Tig Welder should I purchase?

I own a 210EXT and have welded 18g SS and aluminum with it. I upgraded from a 200DV that was not ideal due to the low end of the range being 20a(If memory serves). I've even welded some 1/2" thick aluminum(intake manifolds) with it without a cooler. Torch got a little warm but I don't mess with...

Stainless Ford Model A Grill Shell Crack Repair

I have in my possession what I'm told is an original stainless 1931 Model A grill shell in need of help. There are 3 areas that have cracks that need repaired so it can be polished. The dial calipers tell me its about .025" thick. Has anyone done this with a TIG? Other than probably shaping an ...

Re: Best all around Tungsten

I've observed that inverters seem to do a better job with lanthanated tungsten. I have to say that what brought me to this conclusion was welding aluminum on AC and trying every color under the sun. The difference in performance seems to be more noticeable on AC rather than DC. For me it basically c...

Re: Decent Plasma to Cut .375" Steel?

Thanks fellas. I was borrowing a friends plasma for a bit with my own air compressor, but he needed it back.

I looked into that Hypertherm stuff and it looks awesome, but a little more pricey than I was looking for.

Thanks for another great video Jody!

I ordered the AHP 60 :)

Decent Plasma to Cut .375" Steel?

I searched for a recent thread but only came up with Feb. I'm looking for one that's better than the over priced stuff you get on the tool trucks. I know Jody reviewed the AHP 60 a while back and I trust his take on such things but am curious if there have been any new developments on the plasma cut...

Re: Passive vs auto dark productivity

Your reduced productivity is likely a matter of not being experienced with passive lids. I think once you get use to using a passive lense your productivity will be about the same as with the auto-darkening. As MinnesotaDave stated a few of the tricks he uses, I do similar things, the more you use ...

Typical questions include: Tell us about a problem you had in the past, and how you remedied it. Sometimes they've be a variation of 'Tell us how you worked with a team member to remedy a problem'. I suggest doing as much research on the company as possible. Example: Interviewer: So tell us what you...

Re: The Dreaded Oil Can Effect(18g Stainless)

MinnesotaDave - Why? The 18g goes almost to the end and if I put the 11g on it, it will basically be sitting on the tubing underneath. The 18g is sitting perfectly flat so I'm thinking the 11g wouldn't know the difference if I cut the 18g off or not. It'll add a nice decorative characteristic :) And...

I don't know how to quote posts on here yet so bear with me! cj737 - If you want to stiffen it up as it is, yes, 11ga strips underneath tacked to it will help, or, you could simply run some stringers of flat stock on edge across the rails and tack them to the underside. Your issue is mostly due to t...

Re: The Dreaded Oil Can Effect(18g Stainless)

Where are the SS tin man? They've got to be on here. Will 11g stiffen it up? Or should I glue a piece of 11g aluminum to the bottom to try and dampen it?

Re: The Dreaded Oil Can Effect(18g Stainless)

I knew it was going to do this, just not how bad. The original plan was to bend it into a box and stick it on the edges, but as they do, plans changed. I don't have much SS experience, but I'm thinking any oil can in 11g might be more manageable. From there I can put a cross-member in under with som...

Gainesville, Ga checking in

I had a problem registering on here last year but just checked and apparently it works now.

I wish this forum and Jody's YouTube channel was around when I was getting started. I'm not sure the noob's know how they have it!

I have many years experience both MIG and TIG

That's about it
