I keep a knife, a pair of channel locks/pliers for moving hot metal, a tape and some sharpies/soap-stones in various pockets. I also keep a couple pairs, one shaded like sunglasses and one plain clear, of safety glasses around my neck.

I would say that it is best to get the sturdiest machine you can get. As far as stick welders go, I would try and get good sturdy machine with 80% or more duty cycle at around 120 amps, which is also able to to DC welding for 7018 and Ni-rod, since you are going to be doing cast iron (the buzzbox wo...

I got some time to do tests welding the cast today. I used an old pot from the kitchen for a test, instead of breaking the important part. Tried some oddball alloy rods that were laying around and they didn't work at all, to much heat and to big a diameter. Tried some 308 stainless arc rods and they...
