Re: Tig Puddle

I used to have this problem until I realised it was the fluorescent lighting above and behind me. Switched the lights off and it was night and day different! As it is a pita to keep switching the lights on and off I cut a section of denim out of a knackered pair of Levi's and taped it to the top of ...

All your clothes have pinhead sized burn holes in them, because it's not worth getting changed just to do that 'quick' weld ;)

Yeah, me too. On my bike, I know all the welds - some I really like and some I can't stand to look at  I even park it in the garage so that I can't see the ones I don't like. Trouble is, they're all probably better than mine :?

Hi Guys, yeah, sorry about the title, though to be fair I don't exactly earn a fortune :( I'm running the new torch on my ESAB Murex Tradestig AC 220a and I can't believe the difference it makes over my OEM 26 torch. It's just so easy to manoevre and hold - it makes me smile every time I pick it up ...

I've experienced the same problem. Even bought a new mask but it still happened. I found that if you add a small amount of pulse it stops it happening completely.

Re: Total beginner!

What you have there is a BOC Murex DH Lightweight shank and cutting attachment or copy of. It is still a current model and all spares and accessories are readily available. ASFN 03 nozzle is for sheet metal up to 3mm. AFN 3/64 is for plate 6-20mm. Set acetylene at 4psi (0.3 bar) and oxygen at 40-50 ...

It's not just the US and Aus. Successive governments here in the UK have systematically dismantled our engineering and production industries over the past 50 years or so. Most British industry now is 'Service'. We just don't make anything anymore. You guys are right though, if you've got dirt under ...

Re: Calling all Lathe Operators

I came across mine by chance. It's a 1958 ex toolroom lathe and came with lots of tooling. It weighs a ton and makes these little chinese made hobby lathes look like cheap toys. I paid £250 for it plus another £200 for a new single phase motor. It's a cracking little machine and I don't know how I'd ...

Re: To grow or not to grow?

As all above have said, self-employment is not easy. I've had several businesses over the past 30 odd years and had some great times out of it. I've also lost a marriage, a house and been bankrupt twice. I now have a nice little salaried job as a technician/assessor at my local college and get to sp...

Well, I've finally got round to buying a #9 TIG torch. It's payday so I've just ordered a CK gas cooled #9 torch and lead/hose plus a load of bits n bobs. Will be delivered tomorrow so I'll be spending the whole weekend in the workshop playing with my new toys :D

Hi from London, UK

Hello there, I'm an ex professional welder (long time ago), now welding for the enjoyment of it. Mostly I do motorcycle related jobs but have recently got into e-bikes and am currently modding an ally mountain bike. I love TIG aluminium, but have a half decent workshop with TIG, MIG, Gas, MMA, a lat...
