Full cylinder kPa readings

Hi everyone, I just picked up a new G size argon cylinder and thought I'd ask about how to read pressure readings and how to relate it to percentage of gas remaining? Is there much of a difference in terms of extra gas between 13,000kPa and 30,000kPa because they both are within the full range? http...

Watermelon knife repair

This is my chance to show my girlfriend getting a TIG wasn't such a useless buy and at the same time get my first taste on stainless but only if I don't screw this up. How would you approach this repair tungsten size/cup size amps or anything else worth mentioning? Whenever I read something online r...

Re: Prediction for future weld lens

I had posted this in another thread a while back. The post above about the HDR cameras reminded me of this. Take a look at the video linked below. This is from 2012 so there have been LOTS of improvements to the technology that makes this work. There are probably a million cheap cellphone cameras c...

Re: Prediction for future weld lens

I saw a footage some years ago from some Russian scientists using two cameras with different filters and real-time image processing. The view thru the "lens" was like looking thru clear glass while welding. Interested to see this too. Sounds like they were using one camera to expose for d...

Re: Prediction for future weld lens

Do you mean to say a lens that can both dim the arc while keeping the remaining view brightly lit? With photo/video cameras this is called dynamic range. Cameras with a wide/high dynamic range can simultaneously record the darkest and brightest areas with far more information. They are also super ex...

My very first TIG project - A welding trolley!

Having purchased my first welder December last year, I figured like many others making my own welding trolley would be a great way to gain some experience and I can say it was very rewarding. Many mistakes were make and many valuable lessons were picked up along the way. The goal was to design somet...

Re: Fan dust filters?

I'd like to see this with a visual indicator for when it's not flowing enough - similar to what is found on a Diesel engine system. Biggest problem I see is it can't be a paper element - sparks could light it up. Some type of air flow meter gauge would be very cool to have as a feature. I did a sor...

I opened mine up to take an output off the gas solenoid relay. I don't thing it was too hard to open up. Probably wouldn't hurt to give it blow out with the air gun once in a while.

You can open the black one using a pen to press the spring loaded pins. Not much to see inside. I recently opened mine up to solder an 8 meter replacement cable.

I haven't pulled the case off my machine to see what's inside yet but I imagine I'll need to do this every 6 months to blow out all the accumulated dust.
Is that what everyone else is doing?

Re: New foot pedal

Is that a welding pedal? Interested to see its guts and how it moves. That thing looks like it could give you amps to 2 decimal places.
I've got the same cheap pedal, the first click is nice, everything after that is a bit like riding a bike down a set of stairs.

Fan dust filters?

Has anyone fitted a PC dust filter or similar to their inverter machine?
Seems a bit odd that most machines I've seen choose not to run a filter.
I'd have thought dust would be a major factor in the life of inverters seeing as they are mostly electronic boards no?

Re: Removing mill scale-paint-rust

I purchased one of these recently for my angle grinder to remove paint off some sheet metal. It worked really fast without gouging the steel.
I also learnt you should avoid the edges and corners with these as they get torn apart in no time but on flat surfaces they are great.

Earth cable size length/thickness/amps?

Hi all, So I'd like to replace my 3 meter earth cable with one that's 8 meters (to suit my torch and foot pedal). I have a 210amp machine and need help choosing what I'll need. I don't know what size I currently have all I know is the cable is 10mm thick. Do I need to go thicker the longer I go or h...
