Re: Heating up metal and hammering for better fit before we

Arno, I'm almost certain I've been using mild carbon. I dont believe I've seen much other steel than mild carbon or stainless. And yeah mostly small bends. And is annealing the same as postheating the piece? Poland, I don't regret googling that. I'm gonna have to make one, thanks for the idea! I'm c...

Heating up metal and hammering for better fit before weldin

Hey so I've been doing some maintenance work. And I've been welding some quarter inch steel as reinforcement for worn out large boats. Fitups aren't exactly ideal and I end up heating the plate up when I get it tacked up good at pivot points and hammering it after it gets nice and warm. While this h...

Re: Eastwood Mig 250 ??

Homeboy, I'm assuming your talking about this- http://www.eastwood.com/mig-250-welder-eastwood.html I wish i could answer you question about the consumables, but I can't. It wouldn't hurt to email them about it. I have seen people knock eastwood online. I've talked to a person with an eastwood mig t...

Re: Crack repair failure??

From my experience, I would give the crack a nice, deep bevel, and spray-transfer over it. I'm no old timer but that seems to be a solid way to fix most mild carbon steel cracks. Hope all goes well!

Re: For the eclipse, tricking your active welding hood tosta

Thanks for all the replys. My hood is one of the harbor freights. I'm gonna have to experiment with those lights but I did find out that pointing a remote with a button depressed works. One of my hoods just blinks but my harbor freight stays on with the remote. And that nasa tidbit is good to know. ...

For the eclipse, tricking your active welding hood tostay on

Is it possible?
I'm wanting to see it but my hoods need something more than the sun to activate consistently

Is the podcast on spotify? Spotify is my go-to while working and if they can get on there I assume they'd collect money from it. And I'd be able to listen to it :D

Re: Tungsten prep for aluminum

It's awesome to get some responses, thanks everyone! I oppose the use of Thoriated Tungsten in any HFAC Aluminum application. I've seen it succeed brilliantly, and don't discount those who do it. I find it very unpredictable in it's behavior, and I've cleaned dozens of welds where Thoriated was used...

Tungsten prep for aluminum

I've been practicing aluminum here and there, watching some videos online and lots of practice. I just would like to know how to properly prepare tungsten while welding aluminum I've been using the red 2% tungsten and have had good results with both a balled end (made by pumping the pedal a time or ...

I am really impressed!

I have two questions.. How do you adjust it for different sizes of metal, and may I see the plans?

Thanks,

Re: Weaving vs stringer and tips for a 3G test

I'm using my "welding bible" as a reference on this one. Basically it says welding stringers are easier to lay down and CAN be as strong as weave beads. Weaves being done correctly, the bead should not exceed more than two times the rod diameter. After reading that, for tests during school...

Re: Affordable welder worth it?

I used to think those lincolns where really cheap until I found out about the eastwood. And from quickly reading the specs I don't find much of a difference excvept the eastwood is half the price. If the lincoln or miller "budget" multiprocess machine had AC I would think of them as better...

Affordable welder worth it?

I've been looking around for multiprocess machines and found out about these really cheap Eastwoods that come with about everything for under $650 brand new. Does anyone have any experience with them? They are so cheap and small that I feel like they'd be worth it to have around. http://www.eastwood...

Recent Graduate looking for advice on options

Hey, I just graduated with an asssociates degree in welding where I worked really hard practicing plate, then pipe. I have 2 years experience fabrication indoors. I feel like it would be a waste if I didn't find something that put my education and practice to the test and would like to earn some goo...
