Re: Anyone familiar with a Lincoln Idealarc SP-250?

The last thing I had to weld was 3/4 inch steel. The little Lincoln 125 wasn't going to do it. Break out the 250 amp stick welder.
Even with that, it took like 10 passes to fill the groove. That SP250 would have come in handy. Looking at the manual, it has a 100% duty cycle at 150 amps

Has anyone tried re-purposing a sand blasting cabinet to weld small parts inside? Flood the compartment with Argon and weld away 8-)

Re: Argon lighter or heavier then air?

I'm kind of at a loss what happened to the factory charge. Last year, the window over the kitchen sink IMPLODED. I replaced it scratching my head. Later I noticed while walking past another that the reflection was weird. I went out to my shop and grabbed a machinist straight edge and put it up to th...

We need a "off topic" forum.

My wife was watching Dr Phil tonight. Probably nuff said but tonights topic is about people being scammed into sending money to a stranger with the hopes of a relationship from someone from the other side of the globe based solely on a sob story and a picture. This guy emptied out his savings to a p...

Re: 16 gauge panel holes plasma or power shears

It didn't take me long to make up my mind. My cuts will have round corners (1-1/2 hole saw in each corner). Made up the first test piece and tried the power shears. End of test. To easy. No problem following a straight line. Zero distortion and very minimal burr. Biggest problem is starting off the ...

Re: 16 gauge panel holes plasma or power shears

The biggest cut would be 22"X 22" square. They will all be fairly large square or rectangular cuts. The edge of the cuts will be exposed. I picked up a "double cut" power shear today. I have some scraps of 16 ga steel left. I'll try all three methods before I make the real cuts. ...

16 gauge panel holes plasma or power shears

I have to cut 5 openings in a sheet metal cabinet to install ventilation. I have a plasma cutter but worried about heat distortion. I'm sure that using a plasma would be the quickest. I don't have power shears but not against buying them. Only other option I have is a jigsaw with metal blades. What ...

Anyone familiar with a Lincoln Idealarc SP-250?

I know they're old but for a couple of hundred bucks a 250 amp mig welder might be nice to have kicking around...as long as it works.

Can someone explain to me what exactly is happening with mild steel mig with 100% argon vs mild steel tig using 100% argon?
I't not just shielding gas. Some other molecular activity involved.

Re: Little/no oxide area?

He's tried from 20%-50% on the AC balance with little to no cleaning action. I only asked because wouldn't he be on the wrong side of the balance if his cables were reversed??? Don't mind me. I suck at tig welding. I thought I'd be good at it because I can gas weld all day long perfectly. I assumed ...

I don't see any cleaning action that I would expect to see with his posted settings. I'm curious if your torch lead is plugged into the + or - connector on the welder???

Re: Need to cut 60-70 5/8" holes in 1/4" steel

I shortened a 33,000 gvw cab/chassis with air ride suspension. I had to drill about 60-70 holes in frame stock to do it. I never would have been able to get accurate holes without the use of a mag drill. Also way easier then fighting it with a hand drill

I thought I'd post a follow up to my backwards appearing problem. I put the sheet metal project off for a while to to finish building a Fisher angle plow adapter for my Case skid steer. For that, I was just doing stick welding. That's when I found the last thing I was expecting. Everything looked we...

I have to replace my favorite mig welder that got loaned out and was damaged in a fire. Co is out of biz so no parts to repair it. You would have to be a oldie to even have ever seen one. It was a SAM. The thing I liked best about it was it was adjustable on the fly with a knob on the gun. Why that ...

Re: Everlast foot pedal problem

I'll try again tomorrow. Way to hot outside to play with it this afternoon when I get home. The project is repairing rot on my 25KW Generac generator cabinet. The couple of patches I have completed were tight fitted and fusion welded at very low amperage. I'm still getting warping that is pissing me...

Everlast foot pedal problem

I believe the welder is a Power Pro 256. The one with "all the friggin knobs". I bought this years ago when I was interested in learning to do aluminum. I was barely getting by using the button on that huge water cooled torch. When I tried to use the foot pedal, it was giving me fits, so I...

Welding repair on certified air frames

I'm currently monitoring the repair of a 40 year old abandoned airplane on Youtube. Some corrosion has been found. They claim the repair will take well over 100 hours to replace the part that will take 9 months to get from the manufacturer. My question is, if the damaged part is accessible, why can'...

Re: New line of Harbor Freight welders

I like the user interface of the Lincoln and this looks like the same welder in a different case. Looks like a good deal but my next mig will have pulse which I don't think this or the Lincoln have. I don't need another tig or stick machine.
