Welder settings

If you had no charts or information about wire speed and voltage, would the wire be set to one setting before burn though of metal and lower if bead bigger than material thickness then voltage to a setting just after stubbing to a slightly convex bead

Depth of penetration - How much

How much penetration is classed as enough tested 6mm plate with 0.035 flux core wire with 2 different wire speeds

Re: Lap joint opinions

On the weld i noticed little pits in the weld at first i thought i was causing it on previous welds when i was chipping the slag but this one i did not chip - is this a form of porosity or is it normal

Miller calculator

Is it right the miller calculator wants more amps for 6mm than 4.8mm this is for self shielded 0.045 flux core

Wrote that wrong its stating more amps needed for 4.8mm compared to 6mm

Voltage Settings Gasless Flux Core

When setting voltage for Gasless Flux Core are you suppose to set it just above stubbing eg: 5 on fine volts stubs but 6 is a continuous arc

Re: Flux Core Welding

Checked Polarity all good - Wire is E71T-11 so its self shielded
Will get some thicker practice pieces if all works out will drop down to 0.035 (0.9mm) flux core for the thinner stuff figured 0.035 solid would be the same as 0.045 flux core

Have moved to flux core 0.045 (1.2mm) from solid 0.035 (0.9mm) Tried running beads on 1.6mm plate instant holes Able to run beads on 3mm plate but slag only on edge not full coverage and bead is a dark dull grey Tried fillet weld on 3mm weld is uniform but has undercut Cannot load photos need to upg...

Re: Which is the Better Mig

Now that just makes it harder to decide

The Cig only has one 8 Position Voltage Knob
The WIA has a HIGH/LOW knob and a stepless voltage knob

The CIG is 13% 200A 22 Volt at 10 Mins
The WIA is 24% 180A 24 Volt at 5 Mins

Which is the Better Mig

I have a choice between 2 Migs that have become available
1. WIA Weldmatic 210s 30A-205A Open Circuit Voltage 24 - 35
2. Cigweld Transmig 200 30A - 200A Open Circuit Voltage 26 - 54

Which is the better/bigger mig

Re: Quality of welds opinions
