Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Practiced a lap joint (3mm stainless steel) after getting inspired from listening to the WTT podcast. Unfortunately I didn't have any more material to continue practicing with so I could only do this one. Some of the welds came out better than I have managed in the past so there is some progress. A ...

Re: How much should I be seeing? Helmet shade

Thanks for advice all! I was actually just thinking about using a headlamp this morning. While reading the post on the work light I also realised that my roof light is slightly behind me so I might even be casting a shadow on the part. I will try all these things and also play with the shade setting...

Re: How much should I be seeing? Helmet shade

So if I am understanding correctly. I should see something similar to the screenshot (except an untidy weld  ) The main difference maybe between the screenshot and what I should see is the tungsten tip, which in the video I'm sure is hard to capture. I'm considering getting a better welding hel...

How much should I be seeing? Helmet shade

Hey all, I'm still very much a beginner and have done a bit of stick and TIG welding. I've become more focused on TIG, however I have a question regarding what level of detail one should be able to see when welding with an auto darkening helmet. My shade is set somewhere between 11 and 13 usually (a...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Hi all, I lasercut a few more of the stainless practice cubes and tried an el cheapo pyrex gas lens. I'm not sure if the increased coverage gave me less discoloration or if I was welding colder (or faster...). I tried to not remove too much of the material when welding. I also added a max current c...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Hey all, recently started welding and TIG welding and have been trying to get some practice in. I don't nearly get around to it as much as I should. Really see some amazing work being done here on the forum, truly incredible! Some of the sides are not looking too good and I can only assume way too ...

Haha thanks! Yes, watching all these videos and listening to podcasts I'm becoming a little more proficient with converting to millimeters :)

Hello from South Africa

Hi all, I'm a lab engineer in the electronic/mechatronic field and recently got in to welding. Mainly as a hobby and a personal drive to be able to create and fix things on my own. Space allowing, I would also like to acquire a small lathe. When I feel I'm ready, I will take on some small jobs for t...
