Re: Tig Newbie Help
Welding 1/2 inch solid aluminum will take some horsepower. You can help with pre heat and adding helium if you can find/afford it. you want the tungsten stick out a bit, and keep the tip of the tungsten as close to the material as you can and straight as you can and still be able to see where you're...

Re: holding small steel
As Cj stated, magnets interfere with tig welding and I've had magnets interfere with mig welding. When I need extra hands, I use a "third hand" that I put together using a connecting rod from Caterpillar engine and pieces of 1/4 inch round stock. Nothing fancy but gives me that extra suppo...

50???? I can only wish I was back there again. I had a crash that damaged my dominant eye REAL BAD. Since that I have one "cat" eye that's always wide open and the other eye can't see without glasses and then I can't find the script when I'm working. I'm having problems trying to figure ou...

Re: trouble with oxidization welding stainless
what I see is dirty material unless the camera angle is bad. clean the millscale OFF to bright shiny material. You probably want another dab in between the dabs you have. hold the torch so you have to peek around to see the tip of the tungsten while pushing the puddle. try just running some beads wi...

I’m so glad you came along to teach me all the things that everyone with decades of experience knows is now incorrect. I’ve welded using that ratio much thinner than 1mm and much thicker) which is where the ratio breaks down. But you know more than I after your few weeks of welding. Wish you best o...

Hi Frizz and welcome to the house. IF you can post some pictures about what you have in mind, I'm certain there are folks in here that can help you out. Also pretty sure there are folks down in your neck of the woods that can shed some light. You might have to be a bit patient when waiting for a rep...

have you tried a pressure washer with the hottest water it will make. NOT STEAM. I used my pressure washer with HOT water to clean farm tractor engines.

a friend of mine has an older century wire welder. He began having issues after it sat for a spell. Right where the whip connects to the machine he began having a helluva lot of problems. Check that area , might be corrosion or something else going on.

Re: Little/no oxide area?
mojo, from what I'm seeing is the material isn't cleaned (could be the photo too). Brush with stainless brush in one direction and wipe with acetone or some other non chlorinated cleaner. Turn the amps up, IF that is 1/8 thickness aluminum, you'll need a bit more heat so you don't have to wait. Hold...

Re: Tig welder advice
As CJ stated, the machines you have are work beasts and your skill and technique will get you around the fact that you don't have bells and whistles won't prevent you from producing great welds. The one thing I'd give thought to with having one multi process machine is ... should one of the capabili...

QC has taken a total dump. Right on the welds of the product. IF I received a product that looked like that, even if it were a kids swing set, it would be going back. Absolutely NO ... if's, and's or butts.

stefuel, I have the 256D same machine but digital. be sure you're in 2T, all the other settings to 0 and be sure you're set for dc. If you're doing tacks on thin sheet metal, I'd use the finger button. It just seems to be quicker on/off (for me anyway). You'll want the amps a bit higher than normal ...

IF not preheating and waiting for the 190 to get her going, would a dash of preflow help? And backing the hertz back a tad to get the heat in there?
