When/Where is the best deals on MP machine? And booth set-up

I'm back! It's been a couple years and I'm still twiddling thumbs trying to do the thing. Now I'm in a way better situation than I was 2 years ago I'm looking at buying a MP machine in a few months, something I can teach myself and a one and done unit for stick and mig. It would be great if it was a...

Re: Rod questions

Thanks! I've got funds to figure and a few more pieces of equipment to buy as well. Rods are at the top of my list but I do need to go to whichever welding supply and start trying on gloves to find what I need... in the size I need. I just got moved to a location that allows me to start up welding s...

Re: Rod questions

i know lincoln makes 6013 (easyarc?) and it comes in fairly decent sized boxes. you don't have to buy it in bulk, its not expensive and nothing worse than having tons of something that you don't use anymore.. start with one box. there is tons of different 6013's so you may find one you like better ...

Re: Let's talk helmets, hoods, hats ...whatever you call the

I'm thinking some type of tinted face shield with a auto darkening lens installed in it by myself... if nothing like that exists. I want ventilation and a big view. I just don't have the ching for a hood with a fan right now... maybe in a few months or early next year. I can be pretty crafty but ......

Re: Rod questions

I've been looking around online (Amazon, Walmart, Lowe's etc etc) trying to find the 1/16 6013 in bulk (5lb or more). I've seen a few name brands I'm not familiar with that has some in bulk but I'm having trouble trying to find those rods by brand names in bulk by brands I'm familiar with (Lincoln, ...

I just got my Forney 180st stick (DC) machine. I've got access to some scrap metal from old refrigerators and stoves and even some automotive sheet metal that I want to play around with for now till I can get my hands on some thicker stuff. Once I clean the material of all the coatings, what type ro...

I've moved!!! Now I have room I am seriously looking at a multiprocess unit. I'm looking at Lowe's only because I got a 10% off coupon for them. To kind of play it safe I will be looking at a 160a unit or close to that. Of course I will still need about a 50ft extension to run it off the 220v but a...

Re: First welder

It’s rather easy to run a new 120 or 240 circuit from your panel. You DON’T want to run a 100’ extension cord from the stove to the shop, that’s for sure. The cost of that will be more than having an electrician come run a sub panel for Pete’s Sake. A sub panel with probably 4 120v circuits, 3 at 1...

I just bought the unit you are looking at.Now i already have a miller 211 transformer Mig.That was probably the best money I ever spent. But it is a 70# not counting cables and gas.It sucks on Flux Core unit So at 76 YO it is not that portable for me The Forney Is an Inverter Unit It is also DC So f...

Re: First welder

Yeah I get the flux core is only a MIG that has to be switched to electrode neg and no gas etc etc. That's why I originally wanted to start with it BUT if I can find a stick set-up that I can lower the amps enough to start on automotive sheet metal as well as higher amps for some frame work ... then...

Re: First welder

Pretty hard to learn to weld properly on a Flux Core only box. I’d strongly suggest a Stick/TIG box, and start with Stick as Tweake recommends. You’ll learn to manipulate the rod, manage your puddle, and it’s the cheapest process by a long margin. Some 3/32 7018 rods, bunches of scrap, and proper P...

Re: First welder

i always recommend a stick welder for a first welder. best thing to learn with. old transformer machines are fairly cheap to pick up 2nd hand and there is lots of good cheap inverters around that will outperform any flux core welder. Thanks, yeah I understand the starting with stick first mainly be...

I'm back ... eager as ever. Putting my worry of medical issues aside I'm trying to find a decent priced unit for a first timer. I seen the Forney 140 flux core for $200ish and was curious about thoughts on this, it has a small 20% duty cycle but should be ok for me starting out. Is there any other b...

Re: what do i need for my situation?

inverters have been around long enough that better sources are available for that info, that said Everlast does make some compelling machines at good price points, and you'll find plenty of folks that like them, and also don't. Also, for want you want I don't think a transformer unit is available (...
