Re: an unreasonably overwelded tungsten holder

I like your approach of practice for a purpose. I do the same thing. There are plenty of projects around the shop that can develop abilities. Sometimes I want to get things done and turn to MIG instead of practicing TIG. Or I use an opportunity to learn some stick, which I haven’t done much of.

Re: TIG Welding 316 Stainless Steel

I believe you need to passivate the weld. There is a citric-acid based spray that is easily accessible.

Re: Whats The Point of Pulse Greater than AC Freq ?

OP, Oscar, cj737, and Poland308 all agree. As do I. I’ve had a similar question about when the two frequencies are very similar such that one would observe a beat frequency between them; I think that could product odd results. Still some question remains regarding the usefulness of the configuration...

Re: Flowmeter and Regulators

He’s using a flow meter, not a pressure regulator. Flow is adjusted by controlling an orifice after the internal regulator. You can see the flow with the ball that rises when gas is flowing. Because the internal regulator is 40-50 psi, that will be the static pressure up to the solenoid when gas is ...

Re: Gearing up - Way too many questions

You sound like me from a few months ago. I rented a 330 cf tank; local suppliers don’t deal with any customer tanks larger than 80 cf and that seemed annoying. And larger tanks are a lot less for the gas itself. I bought a gas-lens kit on Amazon for my -20 torch (smaller so no stubby required). It s...

I think you need to set the video to public or unlisted rather than private. Doesn’t play for me.

Most of the refrigeration coils I have seen look like really small-bore tubing.

Re: Whats the deal over at Welding Web?

So what are the best options for a welding forum now? I like this place but it’s a bit sparse. Are there other good ones? GJ fab subforum? Millerwelds forum? As a newbie I was learning a ton from WW.

Re: Whats the deal over at Welding Web?

@Louie1961 I appreciate your points. I do agree that “backup” takes many forms and duplication is a valid backup scheme when geographically diverse. I agree that “cloud” implies some degree of sophistication more than just a “Web host.” I maintain that there is a huge range of what people call a “cl...

Re: Whats the deal over at Welding Web?

True, but in the age of cloud, why even have a server anymore? Put it all up in the cloud, get 99.99 server availability and 99.99999 data durability, for much less than the cost of buying a server or traditional hosting. it is super easy and dead simple. One phrase I like is "There is no clou...

It’s shocking to think someone has a web site in 2018 without a backup.

Can someone help me understand why this is better welder than Al-Bronze brazed? It doesn’t seem to need the strength of weld and also seems sensitive to distortion.

Check out the Striker Supreme XL. It is a massive improvement over the $35 HF helmet I had before.

Re: Buying an A/C Tig

I was about to buy an AHP and then found a used Everlast 250EX with a water cooler. I felt like that was a meaningful upgrade worth a few hundred extra and decided to risk the likely lack of warranty. I only have a few hours on it so far but I’m happy with my choice.

Re: Mild steel sump fitting

I’m about to do this too and I’m thinking to TIG braze it with Al-Bronze rod. Also putting baffles in the pan and thinking the same thing for those. Just to reduce heat input.
