Re: Bolt Cooling Strength - Fast or Slow Cool Down

Thanks everyone this will help in the future. I left the bolt soaking overnight and then cleaned it off and tried to weld a few more nuts onto the stud. Then let it cool naturally for about 10 minutes, nut kept breaking off. I think I wasn't putting up the flux welder up hot enough and kept getting ...

Bolt Cooling Strength - Fast or Slow Cool Down

We have a snapped bolt near a coolant filler neck on an engine. We are flux welding a nut onto the stub. My questions is it better to quick cool down the bolt with penetrating fluid for example or just let it cool down for a few minutes. What would give the fresh weld the most strength? :?:

Re: Welding Gas Tanks - Options for Buying Used

Thanks Oscar I get what you are saying about a variety based on region and supplier. My local supply had already closed by the time I saw the tank on sale locally on craigs. I'll have to also about the hydro date next week if they are open.

Welding Gas Tanks - Options for Buying Used

Hi all, I have been looking at picking up a spare tank (for c25) for my mig welding in case I run out. Looking locally at used tanks I see helium and/or oxygen tanks pop up occasionally. With my local supplier Praaxair, I normally bring in my tank and they swap it. The original one I have is a used ...

Re: Difficult Time Dialing Welder for this 22 Gauge Metal

Tacks will always tend to be cold unless you run right on the edge of way too hot (voltage). Short circuit MIG starts with no prep heat. Even on a 12" run, the first 1/4" - 1/2" is cold. Then the metal gets hot enough to provide full penetration. Nature of the beast. I would bump fro...

Difficult Time Dialing Welder for this 22 Gauge Metal

Hi all, I picked up a Harbor Fright Titanium MIG 140 Professional Welder for some car sheet metal rust repairs I have to do. I am doing this over at an the in-laws and they don't have 220v power. I also own a Lincoln weld pack 175 which I have used in the past to do this exact repair. I cannot for t...

Re: Lots of Coupons, Poor Mig Welds Automotive Sheet Metal

Hey guys, thanks for the reply. :D I am clamping directly to the test pieces. So its possible that the earth magnets I am using are causing interference with the arch (they are very strong), I guess that somewhat makes sense. Also I could be pulling too much heat using the heat sink I conjured up, I...

Lots of Coupons, Poor Mig Welds Automotive Sheet Metal

Hi everyone so been practicing for a few days and I'm still getting really poor welds. I'm running c25 @20scfm and 0.025 wire. I'm practicing on 23 gauge donor car metal (which I cleaned both sides) and trying to do butt welds. Machine is a Lincoln 175 @220. I'm using Cooper sheets in the back with ...

Regulator Setting c25 - Stich Welding Auto Sheet Metal - New

Hi all, Finally setup my Lincoln 175 (220)(been sitting new in its box for years) because I need to patch in some new sheet metal onto my truck. I had a few questions and hoping to get some advice. Will be using c25 indoors in the garage. From my reading I should have my regulator set between 15-20 ...

Re: Lincoln Electric Welder (stored6yrs) Wire Feeder Not Wor

So I found the problem, my father in law incorrectly wired the 220 outlet. The machine was only getting half the voltage. I did a test weld at a higher setting (One in which the feed was working) and I got an arch and then no arch. I was like this can't be right. So then I decided to check the outle...

Re: Lincoln Electric Welder (stored6yrs) Wire Feeder Not Wor

Well just ran the multi-meter and when I am in position A, I get no power at all at the reel motor. As soon as I switch to any other detent, I get power. I even wiggled the knob a bit and nothing. Copper plates are nice and clean so it doesn't look like a corrosion issue.

Re: Lincoln Electric Welder (stored6yrs) Wire Feeder Not Wor

Thanks Franz, logically you maybe right. I just took the motor off and took a look under the cog cover to check to make sure the lubricate was ok. It was ok a little spread out so I carefully packed it back onto the cogs. I can't seem to figure out if this motor runs on dc or ac, I wanted to check f...

Lincoln Electric Welder (stored6yrs) Wire Feeder Not Working

HI everyone, So i picked up a Lincoln Electric 175HD and have had it boxed and sitting in my garage for over 5 years. I finally have need of it and ran 220 power and ran into the wire feeder not working in my A setting (1-10) wire speed. I needed flip my roller over so I could run 0.025 so without e...

Re: Gas Supply Hose Some Sort of Greenish Oily Residue Norma

Green is corrosion residue from brass/Co2 reaction. Many regulators made for low cost MIG machines are a grade of brass that is quite reactive with Co2. Same applies to fittings. That nipple shows obvious sign of having been on a tank, or adapter so who knows what went through it. I have seen the g...

I think it's only like 3 feet. I wonder if the isopropyl alcohol would cause any damage to the hose.

Re: Gas Supply Hose Some Sort of Greenish Oily Residue Norma

It's oily and looks like hair gel not so much soapy. It's weird for sure, and it's only in the hole. I moved the lock nut up and down to see if it was maybe lube in-between the tube and not but I don't see any. I blew out one side and then used a qtip spun tight to get inside all that would fit. Qti...

Called up Lincoln electric and they had no idea and told me to just clean it out. The hose and regulator come from Harris.

That thought occurred to me, it looks like it's just on that one side. I'll blow air through tomorrow normally there shouldn't be anything in the hose right?

Gas Supply Hose Some Sort of Greenish Oily Residue Normal

Hi everyone, I am setting up my new welder that I have had for few years. Its a Lincoln Electric weld-pak 175 220v mig welder. The hose that connects to my c25 regulator I noticed had a bit of an oily coating on the outside. Upon further inspection I noticed that the one of the fittings had some sor...

Re: Ideas to Power 220v Welder Temporarily

Thanks fella's I guess the generator is a no go. So I will have to run romex from a 2 pole breaker to the garage. Assuming that an 8/3 romex should be enough? Its about 65 ft to where I can drop an outlet into the garage.

Re: Ideas to Power 220v Welder Temporarily

You dont have a 220 outlet, assuming you have 110 there? If so, you can make a 220 temp. I have the Lincoln 180, and 50A breaker is way more than you need, especially if only doing tacks. Meant to ask - is there a breaker box? My place has 200 amp service (So I have 2 poles of juice). I have no pow...

Ideas to Power 220v Welder Temporarily

Hi everyone, I was hoping to see if anyone had an idea or two on how I could power my Lincoln Electric 175HD welder in a garage that is not wired for 220 yet. I will be using a welder to patch a lower quarter panel by tach welding a small replacement sheet. So lots of small tach welds and cooling. M...

Car Guy New to welding

Hi all, I have a few car that I maintain and do work on. I have had a new welder for a few years and now I need to start using it. Currently have a Lincoln Electric 175HD. I have done a few small welds using a flux welder in the past but that's about it.
