304 work hardening.

I was going to try to make a rose for a special someone out of some 18ga 304 scrap. Anyone know if work hardening will be a problem? I'm going to give it a shot and learn a thing or two, but any advise would be rad. I've actually never really cold worked stainless at all, just tig'd it up as needed.

Re: Water Jet or CNC Plasma Cutter?

As far as I know water jet is king of the castle. That being said I'm thinking of the industrial huge water jets. They can cut material that plasma and lazer cannot cut due to poisonous off gassing (think plastics). Price is higher up front but lower cost to operate down the the road. The other thin...

Re: Woooo Baby!!

I've actually been grinding on something and to my side had a couple tubes get blown over in the wind and smash me on the noggin where the hard plastic is on the top of face shield. To this day I think it saved me from a good couple stitches.. Not enough for me to go out and get a hard hat though, I...

Oxy Propane Residential

Is Oxy Propane legal in residential shops? It may vary state to state, however I figured I'd just throw this one out there. I've been considering getting a oxy-pro setup, but IIRC in my county I may need to register with the fire marshall. May not be worth the hastle but curious what other states ar...

For a 1/8 rod 110A is in the ball park. 1/2 is pretty much the same as 3/8 plate just gunna take a few more passes.

Re: Stainless greying bead

You should be OK with a #7 or #8 gas lens, but bigger would be better. Once you go above a #8 I find that you NEED the extra diffuser. For example going from a #8 to #10 CK pink cup, I find that the #10 is not as good a cup and I get better results with a #8. If I use a #10 or #12 furick that is a g...

Re: Root pass on 7018 certification

What position/thickness/bevel angle/gap are you using. The AWS D1.1 allows for quite a bit of movement. I have used 1/8 in all positions and 3/32 was allowed in the 3G. I gaped the plates a somewhere between 3/8 and 1/4 inch so 1/8 is a bit easier to fill the root. I think 3/32 is a bit safer in ter...

Re: super flex cable

bap, can you rig up something like those "chinese" handcuffs that kids play with to pull the cable thru the tube? I think that there is some type of "puller" used to pull cables. Can't "remember" what the heck they are called...maybe cable pullers from electrical suppl...

Re: super flex cable

I'd say anything under $40 is probably worth a try. I just remember looking at the time, and seeing most commercial options were above my threshold. To each their own. I think a lot of it is preference after that. One plus of the tubular stuff is that it maintains the super flex characteristics. For...

Re: super flex cable

Just browsed around and looks like REI is probably the cheapest at the moment. https://www.rei.com/search?q=tubular+webbing&pagesize=90 Anything 40-60 cents per foot of 1 inch is pretty good though. ($1.6 per meter (.48/ft) Looks like 1.5 inch is a bit more expensive, but there is probably some ...

Re: super flex cable

On all my ck superflex cables rather than dishing out for lead covers I use tubular webbing (the stuff rock climbers use for padding rope). It keeps my leads clean and protects them against abrasion which is what tubular webbing is designed for. I used 1 inch but if I were to do it again id use some...

Re: 7018 certification test?

I've always been curious about that. I understand that we should all know how to weld d1.1 without powertools, however on the job site I imaging that grinders are widely used and a welder/helper would use one if they saw they trapped slag or had a shitty root pass or something. I've taken d1.1 tests...

Re: Why does AC make so much noise?

A graph of electrical current is typically shown in Amperage on the Y axis and time in seconds on the X axis. If you graph DC you have a constant current (constant Amperage) per second which is a flat line at that amperage. y (A) = mx(s) + b In a DC application the formula is y = selected amperage s...
