Re: Lincoln 3350 4c vs. Miller Clear Light vs. Optrel

I was finally able to try out the Miller T94 today. I liked it. I certainly prefer it to the Lincoln 3350 4c that I tried. I could see more of the periphery of the workpiece while welding. I'm not sure if everybody would perceive this difference in the same way I do, or perhaps some people just don'...

Re: New Member from Lake Superior region

A warm welcome to you. My son, daughter in law and two week old grandson live in Superior so I get up there often and hopefully more often now that I am a first time grandpa. Beautiful country up there but winters last too long. Congratulations Grandpa! We are currently in Second-Winter here. Betwe...

Re: Lincoln 3350 4c vs. Miller Clear Light vs. Optrel

Got the Lincoln 3350 4c and tried it very briefly on a Miller Dynasty TiG machine. I didn't really care for it. The weld puddle was clear, and the color was good, but the weld puddle was ALL I could see. I boxed it up and sent it back immediately. There was no peripheral view to speak of once the ar...

Re: Why does my school program use 3/32 electrode on .060 st

Seems to me the logical thing to do would be ask the school why they supply the tungstens they do. I will certainly do this. I have been on spring break for 10 days, and during that time I've been watching videos, reading forums, listening to podcasts, and going over technical manuals. I've got so ...

Re: Why does my school program use 3/32 electrode on .060 st

Thanks guys! I'll make an effort to up my speed/heat and see if that produces optimal results.

I may buy some 1/16 tungsten just to get a feel for what the differences are, though. And now I want to try welding razor blades. :)

Why does my school program use 3/32 electrode on .060 steel?

We are working out of the Hobart Institute of Welding Tech GTAW book. They specify 3/32 tungsten electrode at 45-55 amps for open root butt joints on .060/16 gauge mild steel. It seems like every technical manual, or welding calculator I've seen online, recommends 1/16 tungsten at higher amperages. ...

Re: Lincoln 3350 4c vs. Miller Clear Light vs. Optrel

I wound up ordering a Lincoln 3350. In the end, I actually like the way it looks better than the Miller. I tend to appreciate simple, rugged, utilitarian esthetics. Hopefully it will be as reliable as it is plain. I also like the way Lincoln has recently expanded its training and educational presenc...

Re: Lincoln 3350 4c vs. Miller Clear Light vs. Optrel

I was able to try on both the Lincoln 3350 4c and the Miller T94 helmets in the store. I've narrowed my choice down to these two helmets. Unfortunately I'll not be able to try welding with either one. The Miller t94 has a noticeably brighter light state. This -- combined with the side viewing window...

I'm up on the South shore of Lake Superior in rural WI. Not too far from the Twin Ports. So not too far from MN Dave either, I guess.

How about yourself?

Lincoln 3350 4c vs. Miller Clear Light vs. Optrel

I'm looking to get a new welding hood that will help me see better than the Praxair house brand I've been using. I made the mistake of trying out my buddies Speedglas 9100xxi a couple weeks ago. It was like looking through the window of Pandora's Box. What has been seen, cannot be unseen. I'm in Tec...
