Re: NEVERLAST lied again!

Richard, The '66 was a Corsa. It had 4 single barrel carbs, produced 140 Hp out of 164 cubes. I bought a wrecked '65 that had the 180 Hp Turbo engine. Rebuilt that engine in my dorm room on the third floor. It got a few improvements during assembly. I used a 2 wheel cart to get it down stairs, and i...

I would use those gloves to 'break-in' one of those dumpsters you just built.

Re: NEVERLAST lied again!

Ok, I got that wheelchair subframe welded back together, and shipped out. Even got a bit of paint on it, before stuffing it in the box. Yes, it was originally stuck together using the MIG process, can't say it was welded. It was an ugly repair, but I will stand behind it. At least I can say it is we...

Re: Trying Tig welding

As per his picture, that is a MM 215 which is limited to DC for Tig welding. It won't work for doing Aluminum in TIG mode. It can do Aluminum in MIG mode if set up correctly. After looking again at his first picture, I can see what looks like etching around the weld. I would say it looks more like a...

Possibly, but that was around '75 or '76.
I don't remember seeing the transistorized modules on B&S engines till about 10 years later.

Run a couple of beads without any filler. Let us see what that looks like. Just to confirm..... you have the torch in the - port, and the ground clamp is in the + port? It might be from a long arc, but that isn't the first thing that comes to mind when looking at your first picture. What is the mate...

Re: NEVERLAST lied again!

Maybe they figured if the parts didn't move, that qualifies as "Solid State". I mean, when I grew up, that's sorta what it meant was "no moving parts"... bit of a stretch, but hey! When I was growing up, 'Solid State' meant it didn't have vacuum tubes in the electronics. I...

Re: NEVERLAST lied again!

Richard, I have a subframe for a powered wheelchair to pick up at UPS in the morning. Some Factory welds failed, and I think a wheel came off. I need to repair it, and get it headed back to Indiana by the end of the day. From what I could see in the pictures of the failure, it was a MIG cold weld. T...

It's like buying a new car with a window sticker saying it has a V8 engine, then finding out it is really a straight 6. The V8 they was talking about, was a can of vegetable juice they put in the trunk! That isn't all that I found during the inspection and cleanup. I have more pictures, but I need t...

NEVERLAST lied again!

I finally got time to take my 255EXT apart to see what I could do about the unstable arc on AC. One of the first things that I noticed, was the Gap Points for the HF start. Considering that one of the reasons I bought this welder, was it had 'Solid State HF' , I feel a bit 'ripped off'. Just to make...

Just be clear on this..... are you trying to tighten the Tungsten by turning the gas lens, or by turning the back cap?

Re: Gantry Extension

Can you load it over the back of the trailer, getting the gantry up as close to the wheels as possible. Re-attach to the rear of the container, and lift it to get the weight off, then slide it foward into position? Maybe a few pipe rollers between the container and the trailer?

I also bought a 255EXT . Was happy with it for the first 18 months , then the arc became unstable on AC. 'Lugnut' from Neverlast told me the problem was my Tungsten was getting hot and causing high resistance. They would do nothing to honor the warranty at that point. Said it was all my fault. By th...

It is my experience that running theorists tungstens and 25% cleaning will tear the tips up very quickly. Swap to Lanthanated and run closer to 35% and you should be better off. If anything, the tip will ball up instead of tear out. Not sure if you are talking about terrorists tungsten, or theoreti...

That sounds interesting. Can you post pictures of some of the different setups? What is a ballpark price for the full package?

Re: Can my welder handle this?

You might try drilling a hole or two in the frame to see how hard the material is. A number of modern vehicles are using higher strength steel alloys to reduce weight. Some of them do not respond well to welding. I have seen warnings in service manuals about welding not allowed. Just a heads up.

Re: Metallurgy 101

I used to believe that mild steel could not be hardened. However, it seems that I was wrong about that.... Hardening of steel depends on the Carbon content, AND the rate of cooling. According to pages 137 and 138 of 'Metals and How to Weld Them', steel of .2% Carbon can be hardened to a Rockwell C o...

Jody likes the book 'Metals, and how to weld them'. He suggests getting it from the Lincoln Foundation. That is what I did. The book is a good starting point for these kind of questions.
