Re: Everlast 255 EXT magic smoke escaped!

Update: The new board should be here tomorrow. $60 plus shipping, which makes it affordable. Hope that fixes the problem. Thanks for the offer cj737. The customer isn't in a hurry, so I have time to get a solution. The HTP is being considered if I am forced to buy a new unit. Will update again after...

Everlast 255 EXT magic smoke escaped!

I was using it on a project yesterday. Switched off to swap Argon bottles, and when I switched it back on, smoke rolled out the back. It is 5 1/2 years old, so out of warranty. I called Everlast to get a replacement fan power board. Tech support was helpful. Now waiting on parts dept to call back wi...

Re: Welding- brazing copper aluminum bronze.

Can you post some pictures? How big is it? Where are you located? You can get Silicon Bronze, or Aluminum Bronze filler rods for TIG. The Silicon Bronze (SB) has a color between copper, and bronze. The Aluminum Bronze (AB) is more of a silver color. I would probably go with AB because it is stronger...

Re: Tungsten and filler rod size

The 3/32" Tungsten size would probably be my choice, so shouldn't be a problem. The 3/32" rod might be a bit too large. I would probably grab 1/16" rod myself, but I believe some welders like a larger rod for the added heat control it allows. What alloy of aluminum are you welding? Wh...

Re: cylinder head ports

"Hard to control the arc". Ok, what are your settings? With a 350A welder, you should be able to increase the A/C frequency to the 120-150 Hz range, and still have enough heat to do the job. The higher frequency will help stabilize the arc. As frequency goes up, the arc tends to act like t...

Re: cylinder head ports

The 4047 rod is sometimes referred to as Aluminum brazing rod. It has a lower melting point than a lot of Aluminum alloys. It 'wets in' well, and can give good looking welds with practice. In my opinion, the only downside to 4047 is a strength issue. The reason I keep going back to 4943 is this. It ...

Re: cylinder head ports

The 5356 alloy doesn't do well at elevated temps. ( Above 200F) You can research it online. The 4943 alloy is stronger than the 4043, and I find that it wets in better when welding castings. What was your experience welding those heads? Did the puddle flow well, or did it act like it was full of dir...

Basically, Clean well, use an open cutting burr to prep the area. Preheat to about 200 Deg F.
Use AC , and 4943 rod. Let the cleaning action of the AC work on the impurities, before adding rod.
Sometimes you need to clean between passes,

Re: Welding repair on certified air frames

I was an IA for years. Any repair must be based on approved data. AC43.13 is considered acceptable if not in disagreement with service manual. If the service manual disallows the repair, it is very unlikely that someone from the local FSDO will sign off a field repair. At this point, about your only...

A good day of welding in that outfit, will make for a very painful sunburn.

I guess that I could be a nice guy, and help her put some lotion on those burns. :D

Re: what PSI should a 20 cubic foot welding tank be when full?

Near the top, or on the neck, look for the letters DOT. The standard, such as 3AA follows, and then the rated pressure in PSI. This applies in the USA, other standards are used in different countries.

No, 737 won't be replacing his Dynasty with a PrimeWeld. He is a pro level welder and can take advantage of everything the Dynasty offers. I'm nowhere near that skill level myself. I have a Neverlast 255EXT that is about 3.5 years old. It developed issues about 2 years ago, and I called customer sup...

Re: Mig Welding A2

A2 isn't very hard in the annealed condition, and that is how you need it, for welding. Heat Treating could result in the assemblies being too brittle. You might be better off using a steel in the 50K class to make the pads, then using a hard surfacing rod on the bottoms. That gives you the advantag...

Re: Unweldable cast? Bad settings? Wrong process?

Sorry for the delay, I was down in Florida for a few days. I believe that I was up around 30-35% cleaning, on the Balance. That is where I tend to run the Balance when welding on questionable materials. I also use a Carbide burr to gouge out along the crack lines. This makes a smoother surface that ...

Re: Unweldable cast? Bad settings? Wrong process?

Use AlBr with AC on cast iron. The AC gives you cleaning action, just like it does on Aluminum. That cleaning action helps the AlBr wet onto the surface, instead of wanting to bead up.
Jody did a video on the subject. I tried it about 2 years ago to repair a table saw. It worked like a champ.

The host of this website has a number of youtube videos on welding. He has a series about the basics of learning TIG. Watching those videos, and then watching them a second time, will be your best bet for trying to learn TIG on your own.
By the way, welcome to the forum.

Re: Paralysis by analysis -or- What should I buy?

As an owner of a Neverlast 255EXT, I strongly suggest you buy something else. They claim a 5 year warranty, but I challange you to find anybody that got real support after 6 months. Mine tried turning into a boat anchor after 16 months or so. The company blamed it all on my methods. Nevermind that i...

Jody has a series of great videos for learning TIG. He is the host for this site, and you can learn a lot from him. I basically taught myself TIG by watching his videos. At some point, you will benefit from having an experienced welder look over your shoulder, but learn everything you can first.

As a Neverlast owner, I suggest that you avoid the brand.

The Primeweld has a much better reputation for good customer support. For the money, I don't think you will find a better welder.
Good luck.
