Re: MIG or Stick for 1/2" Plate?

thats fine if your in shop with it all ready set up and use it on other things. but on a farm thats unlikely. hes going to have to buy a rather expensive roll of wire thats probably going to sit around for 20 years. even then by the time hes dialled it in he could have welded with stick. We'll have...

Re: Why MIG over FCAW-G

Smooth running with great penetration. Granted, only done flat fillets so far.

Re: Why MIG over FCAW-G

Ya, the minimum thickness seems to be about 12ga, so no good for thin stuff. But hey, that's what the Invertec is for.

Why MIG over FCAW-G

Picked up some .045 Esab 7100 Ultra for the PowerMig256 and I think I'm in love. For indoor welding, it's the bee's knees.

Why would I ever go back to solid wire when this lovely stuff exists?

Thank you sir, now if only they all turnedout that well.

Re: Flux coverage

Definitely pulling the bead.

Weld looks good but I think my issue was too little stickout. Image

Flux coverage

Beginner Q- what can I do to promote better flux coverage of the weld pool?

Wire is .045 NR-211-MP at 17v and 100ipm, trying to hold 5/8 stickout. Weaving side to side on 1/8 and 3/16 tubing.

Thanks, Cole

Re: MIG schedule 40 mitered corners

Old thread but I'll chime in- I was taught that for instances like this its best to start with the thinnest section and work toward the thicker section. So begin at the apex of the miter and work toward the crotch.

Re: Flux Core wire recommendation, G or S

I'm sure that we can. I was sticking with Lincoln because that's what I've always had good luck with, but if there's a compelling reason to try the Hobart I'm all ears.

Local shop has 10# 0.035" Outersheild 71M for $43, certainly cheap enough for a trial.

Re: Flux Core wire recommendation, G or S

I really like the look of the 71M. This project is getting coated but it seems like a good time to practice.

I'm used to beveling my joints so that should ensure good penetration.

Flux Core wire recommendation, G or S

Hello all. I'm kind of lost in the sea of FCAW wires so I'm looking for a recommendation. I'm using a Powermig 256 for an upcoming project and it's the heaviest weldment that I'll have attempted with wire before. It's 4x3 and 3x2 .188"wt rectangular tubing being fab'd into a gate. It's going in...
