Re: Stupidly overkill welding table project.

Looks great. With no forklift they can be a bit of a pain to move around, but it's not the end of the world. It might seem a little overkill, but not really. Mine might be classified as that. Mine was made from a plate from an old die set for in a giant punch press. The legs go where the 4 alignment...

This thread's from 6 years ago so they've probably got it worked out by now. The poster joined in Nov 2020, posted again on 4/3/2022. Not sure about you, but that’s just a few days again on my calendar??? Ah! Lol, I think I was looking at your join date vs the thread post date... Then I didn't stop...

Dropped torches and broken many over the years. likely that one got cracked after a fall and just took a while to finally give up for good. I'll never know exactly what does my cups in, havnt dropped my torch in about a year, at most it'll get brushed against whatever I'm hanging it off during a co...

Re: Portable Reel for 100' 3/8" Air Hose?

I don't know if they make something similar for air hose, but for extension cords they make a super nice reel that's small, portable, and doesn't twist the hell out of the cords. https://www.harborfreight.com/150-ft-extension-cord-reel-39343.html You hold the black handle gizmo with one hand and tur...

Re: Its Green.

I don't use any green tungsten because my welder manual says not to. But, is it really going to harm the machine? I would just think it'll wear much faster and that's about it. Somewhere here I have green ones I'd give to anyone who'd want em. They're terrible, even in a transformer machine.

Re: Would anyone actually be interested to see a Benchmark Abrasives TCT blade tested out?

If my experience means anything, it's going to last a lonnggg time. Unless you use it hard every day, I doubt you'll see any loss of cutting performance in just a few weeks. They say 2000 cuts, and if I keep people who don't know how to use a saw away from mine, it will just about outlive me.

Re: Stel S300 on a 400V, 3-phase up-converting transformer

I"m curious to see what the electric company says the electric bill will be. Commercial electric uses a demand billing, which if you're not familiar, means they charge you demand for the entire month at the maximum rate of consumption, as if it were running 24/7. That's the part that kills you ...

Re: Stel S300 on a 400V, 3-phase up-converting transformer

1200A?? I'm guessing a Subarc machine? I can't imagine anything else that could require that many amps, gouging probably, but on WHAT? No welding equipment, it's a machine. BIG machine. Has BIG motors on it. Just the main motor for it is 600HP. I'm told just that motor pulls around 750A continuous....

Re: Would anyone actually be interested to see a Benchmark Abrasives TCT blade tested out?

Buggy, I did get the evo 14/15 saw and like you, I don't know how those blades stay up to par like they do. Oscar, I, with my tender hands and fingers, would hesitate using a hand held circular saw while cutting metal. I can understand being careful of one piece tilting causing the blade to be pinc...

Re: Would anyone actually be interested to see a Benchmark Abrasives TCT blade tested out?

Which blade do you run in your Evo saw? Project Farm did a 14" carbide blade comparison a few weeks ago. It was really interesting IMO. Believe it or not, I am still using the original blade it came with. After more than a year. I did buy a Diablo blade because you mentioned them here. That's ...

Looks very nice. 200A @ 100% would cover about 100% of what 99.9% of people need.

On the note of 3 phase, I'm doing an application right now to see about getting 480 3Ph in here. Looking at buying a machine that requires 1200A/480V service. I can't wait to hear what that's gonna cost.

Re: Would anyone actually be interested to see a Benchmark Abrasives TCT blade tested out?

If you want to buy a blade to test out, I can't imagine anyone not wanting to hear a review on it. But I wouldn't buy one just for that. What RPM does that saw run at? Was it made specifically for metal cutting and runs at a slower speed like the chop saws do, or is it just a standard circular saw w...

Re: Crane safe runner cart - is it a thing?

You can always call Miller and ask they if they have such a thing. Seem like an item that would have decent demand so I would think they have one. If not, I could see me getting some 4x1-1/2 steel channel for drive-in runners. Then build an enclosure that was welded right to those tracks so you driv...

They also have cheaper ones at $4.53/bulb (25 / carton). https://www.1000bulbs.com/product/210628/PLT-90032.html

Might be some pricing snafu but they have ones with more lumens than mine for less than I paid 2 weeks ago.

More New Lighting! And some history numbers.

There's been a few threads here discussing lights, and I've chimed in with several of the types I've purchased lately. Well, I've been installing a new type in my shop where I"m removing T8 Fluorescent lights I bought about 11 years ago to replace T12s then. I calculated then that certain light...

Re: TIGing Mild Steel Boxes

Without filler, I can't get it to stay cool enough either. Nice pic btw. Looks plenty clean enough and the fit looks great. I'd probably drop the amps and use 1/16" filler. Maybe file the edges some before starting to get them super clean (even more than they are now). Smooth surface also helps...

Re: drill/tap TIG-welds in 304SS?

Stainless is "gummy" and difficult to machine regardless of the condition it's in, but after welding it's even worse to tap. Harder is actually better, not worse. It's the gummy nature of it that makes tapping difficult. I might opt to even try never-seize as a tap "fluid" if the...

Can you look closely at the color and surface finish on them and see if there's ever so slight a difference between the pieces? I'd almost guess you were sent differing types of tungsten that sombody mixed up in the box. Also, what is this brand. It scares me when I look online at product pages and ...
