Re: Hotpass help

Wow thats nice!My root is always flat on inside, sometimes i have a little suckback, sometimes not.For the most part its ok though.I've never had a root look like that on the inside.I'll try runnin hotter and faster and see how it turns out.Same technique for the hotpass right?6010 & 7018 amp sett...

Re: Hotpass help

Not sure what type work it will be in the future, just practicing for two timed UA tests right now.One is 6010 downhill all the way,the other is 6010 root & 7018 out.I have always used a 3/32 gap with about a nickels thickness for a land.105 amps sounds a little crazy to me,but i'll try it (downh...

Hotpass help

Im practicing for a UA 5g pipe test.6" sch 40 steel pipe.1/8" 6010 rod for the root, downhill, about 75 amps, might be a tad much though.I can use either 7018 uphill or 6010 (either direction) for the hotpass.I used 7018 uphill with a slight weave (holding the sides) & burned a hole throu...

Re: WTF??

Got a new collet & body today & did some welding in between 80 & 100 amps with a 1/16 electrode.I think 100 amps is to much,85 good.Bottom line;what happened yesterday didnt happen today.Still dont know what happened.Max amperage to use with a 1/16 electrode?

WTF??

I just welded my collet to collet body along with the tungsten & cracked my #6 cup.Well, thats never happened before.1/8" clean base metal, fillet weld.90 amps,15 cfh,1/16" tungsten.Ceramic cup was glowing red & tungsten burned up.This all happened in seconds.I was just practicing on...

What is the difference between the UA & the Boilermakers unions? As far as the welding side of things goes, dont they both work on the same type projects?

Re: Math

Well, thats to easy.Kinda sounds like framing carpenter math to me,minus the geometry.I've heard of the pipe fitters book you're talkin about.I'll try to find one. Thanks

Re: Tungsten erosion

Yes,i'm using 75% argon & 25% Co2.Sraight polarity (electrode negative). What does the Co2 do to the weld/tungsten?Thanks for the advice though!!I couldnt figure out what was goin on

Re: Tungsten erosion

Tried a slightly bigger cup & more gas flow which seemed to help a little.Always have a problem with contamination, constantly re-grinding (dedicated wheel).Would long arcing possibly be causing the tungsten erosion?

Tungsten erosion

Bought a Thermal Arc 161s a few months ago & am practicing TIG.Its been a couple years since i've TIG welded.No matter what i do,my electrode burns off quickly.I assumed the amps were to high,ran it on 40 amps with a 1/16" tungsten,still burns off.Im using 75/25 mix,# 5 cup,1/16" 2% la...
