Re: Success stories of Harbor Freight 91110 inverter?

I'm a Miller "drinker" (I know...."Tombstone" ) myself, but I think those HF inverter boxes are the cat's meow!! It is what it is and can handle thin metal very well! I don't own one, but I've borrowed one from a buddy last summer. I used it to quickly repair several gate l...

Re: xAZAZELx13 not wanting to post more videos

I wanted to throw this out here for everyone to chew on. xAZAZELx13 had stated that he will not post another welding video until the video posted below hits 5000 views. I like his videos as they show people like me that have no pipe welding experience what it is like and how they do things. I have ...

Re: Lincoln Electric AC/DC 225/125 Stick Welder

Unfortunately, I don't have infinite amperage choices with this welder. I probably won't be doing any downhill welding for now, because I want to practice for passing a structural welding test. I would like to learn to weld downhill later, tho. Consider these amperage choices from the tapped transf...

Re: 7048

Good luck finding any 7048 in the USA (if this is where you are located). It is a low-hy electrode that was strictly used in "vertical down" applications, primarily in ship building, according to the web. Since you can't weld "uphill" is this weld for anything "structural&qu...

If "slag" were an indicator of weld strength and consistency, then weld testing and analysis such as x-Ray, visible light, ultra sonic, acoustic and peel testing processes would no longer exist. There is no such scientific testing method which judges the slag as to the integrity and qualit...

Re: Advice Required for Rod Selection.

To add, regardless of what the OCV is for a machine, a 6013 is still a 6013. The properties, characteristics, alloy and mineral content are all basically the same from manufacturer to manufacturer. The "6013" is an AWS "classification standard that has been adopted and accepted world ...

Re: Advice Required for Rod Selection.

I'm shocked that so many here are supporting the use of 6013 for a trailer that will be hauling a boat! A boat that's 20' in length and weighs over 3,000 lbs with fuel. Now couple that with other "stuff" loaded into the boat, the size and weight of the engine chosen plus the weight of the ...

Hobart Stickman AC/DC or pretty Blue Miller Thunderbolt XL. The transformer based, continuous amperage welder will last you a lifetime. Can't say that about an inverter machine. Eventually a CPU fails.

Re: Properties of Anchor brand welding rods

I found the Betty Mills company sells Anchor brand. In fact, it almost looks like "Anchor" welding products are a Betty Mills label. Scroll down the page to see the electrodes. Very limited info, but the electrodes do have the AWS number designator on them (ie 6010, 6013, 7014, 7018 etc......

Re: Using a 50 Amp welder on a 40 Amp breaker?

You're all good. 99% of the time you'll probably never go over 135 amps on that buzz box for 1/8" electrodes. Most 6010/6011's run at around 90 amps, 6013's and 7018's at around 120 and 7014's at 120-135. With the above in mind, I doubt you'll ever need to draw the full 50A of that machine's ca...

70xx series and 6013 should be welded while half asleep. Two problems with 6011. 1) Lincolns 6011 sucks. 2) People playing games drawing little circles, dancing about and super long "whipping". It doesn't mean whipping as in sack time with the sis-in law. ;) Just short stroke it. If you ha...

I'm no expert, but from what I've seen most people, with the right root and landing, crank up the heat and shove it in and drag. This is a good one for Otto Nobedder, cause I've read some of his posts and thats what he does. Check out FieldRes on YouTube and xAZAZELx13 as well, both show down hand ...

Every rod has a use. Some better than others. 1cent, ~John 100% agree. Here's just my own personal take on mild steel rods, because I use almost all types. Again, just my own opinions on how I use them: 6010/6011: welding through crap (rust, paint, zinc plating, wide gaps); when needing a deep pene...

Hi and welcome. Since your new and your question shows it (nothing wrong with being new, we were all there at one time), I can pretty much guarantee that you probably don't have a machine that can run 3/16 electrodes. The 3/16" is F-I-V-E :o :o :o times the size of the 1/16" electrode. It'...
