Re: Getting started in MIG welding - gas or no gas?

shouldnt need anything different, unless you would need some type of bushing between the output port on the bottle and the inlet of your regulator i'm kind of thinking that a paintball gun bottle has a smaller neck and so on and the thread may be different but if you can bush it together and keep it...

good point rick, i didnt consider that the 110 machine would have low duty cycle and that he wont be at it balls to the wall like a full blown fab shop. strat, he called it, crack a window and blow a fan out of it and you will be good

I really hope Jody chimes in on this one cause that dude is a tig welding guru, but i would kinda need to know what cup your running, your stickout for your tungsten and that kind of thing, if you throw out some more details like that you will be sure to get a way better response maybe reply back wi...

Re: trouble with 2g groove weld samples please help

to be honest, gas flow sounds about right. but in my opinion, i weld that style joint with about 18 or 19v and 200-215 ipm wire speed, i also am a pusher for the most part there have been countless debates on push vs. pull, but i push, i've passed a boatload of tests so it works for me as you are ma...

go for a new regulator man, chema has a way better grasp on the internals of the reg but i took the ones off my torches in to have them rebuilt when they finally started leaking (inherited victor's of my dads with alot of miles on 'em) and it was almost as much to rebuild them as it was to just buy ...

Re: trouble with 2g groove weld samples please help

wowie it really asks for 21.5 volts and 325 IPM?? thats wild, i'm not saying it doesn't but that seems very hot and very fast for 3/8, are you filling these grooves in a single pass? if so that would make a little bit of sense but i digress... if your root is splitting it basically means lack of fus...

Re: Getting started in MIG welding - gas or no gas?

Welding with shield gas definatly has its advantages but there are some downsides to consider, first off welding with gas means that you need to have cleaner steel (in my book, not a text book) but at the end of the thing you will have far less cleanup to do, no slag to chip and brush and chip and b...

Re: Undercutting and edge welds

definatly a little more "pause" at the edges of the joint its possible that its all about being to hot, but you'd have to be pretty damn hot to not be able to fill out a joint with proper technique, try slowing the whole operation down a little bit and if your sticking, shorter arc length ...

Re: Tips for rookie arc welder

each type of electrode (rod) has a preffered setting to run on, your 7018's are going to like dc+ best wont run well at all on dc- and in a pinch can run on ac, however your 7014's actually favor ac and so on. if you end up 6010 is a DC+ rod that shouldnt really be used any other way. and your 6013'...

Re: Tig welding cast iron with alumabronze

it could be that you are allowing it to cool too quickly are you putting the piece into some sand or oildry or something to slow the cooling rate? if not the weld may very well come out hard as nails but brittle. just my $0.02

it may be that you are locking your wrist.. i know this sounds odd and alot of guys are gonna think its too simple of a solution but i instruct part time and i see all kinds of guys do it, try this, hold a pencil or something sticking out of your hand like the electrode. then mimic the same motion y...

Re: What am i doing wrong and how can i get better.

i agree with rick with the addition that it appears that your arc length is varying quite a bit, its pretty common amongst those who are just getting comfortable running a stick. try to make sure that you are traveling at an even clip, which it appears you're doin a decent job of, and concentrate on...

Re: arc pops out

if your wire is feeding smoothly and evenly then it would appear to me that you need a little less heat sounds like you're burning the whole stick out up in one swoop and that causes it to stick. its kind of hard to say for sure but if everything in the feed line is ok its just an amperage issue i w...
