Re: my next Project

Hey, everybody. Sup? I'm working on a project, now, and haven't had much time to post. However, I'm welding stainless steel for the first time and it's a little tricky. Nothing I can't handle. Tri-mix is expensive. I got a small problem. When I was welding, I noticed it got increasingly difficult to...

Re: my next Project

Hey, everyone. It's been a while since I've posted. The mini bike was getting kind of expensive for the parts and the research. The contacts that I have made have been very positive. During that time, some work was starting to come my way, one of which is sort of big. Probably about three weeks of w...

Re: my next Project

Otto, as usual, you came thru, again. The info was very helpful. The HF power head manual says it's a "Brushless exitation". So I shopped around. I was getting some feedback from some other sites, that one guy used a HF generater, 7000 watt, for his Hobart welder, no problem. Another site ...

Re: my next Project

This really bites. I need electricity to run my welder. I have a Lincoln SP 140 T. It runs great on 120V. I don't know what Mark did to the power, but, my welder won't work in my garage now. I think he was told to change it. The tenants don't pay for the electricity that goes out there. I was thinki...

Re: my next Project

So, I go out to the garage and start grinding the welds to make everything pretty. The fuse pops. ??? I reset the fuse. It pops again. ??? Seems that Mark the electrician re-wired something and can't use the welder in the garage. So, now I have to weld on the back porch. Oh. well. :|

I like that idea. I may pop that rubber one out and I have two bung halves from the union I cut in half. Tomorrow, I'm gonna make the reservoir lid. :)

Hey, is this the new format? I like it. Re: my next Project

That's not it, either. Alot of new creative ideas. It's a brake bleeder pot. For many years, I've done brake jobs. My first was when I was thirteen. I've always had to have someone pump the brake peddle. I looked at every place for a bleeder pot and even an empty tank of any kind. McMaster Carr, Gra...

Re: my next Project

So, I got a little extra time on my hands and couldn't think of a small project I could work on. Then it came to me. Something I've always wanted that can seriously save me time and money. Know what this is? The top isn't welded on yet. http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/bb477/CraigLam1/Picture141_...

Re: my next Project

Dhazelton, that's great. The predators look like good engines. I'm reading more reviews and they sound good. I'm starting up on the bike next week. My daughter's birthday is this week and there's little money left. I ordered a new SDHC card for my camera. The old one was a class 4 and will not recor...

Re: my next Project

Dhazelton, thank you for the reply. I spoke with Carrol Stream, twice in length, and they insist the motors are not clones. That's like saying that Vizio is not a clone of Sony. The motors are almost exactly alike. I've heard good and not so good about predator. I do read reviews, alot. There's not ...

Re: my next Project

So, after all the side work is finally done, I'm back on the mini bike. The work for Steve fell thru, thank God, for the ADA handicap lift and tub. Too many headaches. During this time, the outboard I was working finally runs! I started her up last weekend and now is in storage until I build the boa...

Nick sounds right. Before you do all that, talk to the guy and see where he's at. Not geographically, but, money wise. After being in the trades for over 40 years, if he starts talking about, "How much is this" and "How much is that" and "Why does it cost so much to have som...

Re: Muffler Pipes???

I just finished replacing a muffler on a friends old '87 Cutlass. I used .120. You could use .060, but it's really thin. I mig'd it on about B or C setting with a feed of about 1.5 to 2. You have to work fast 'cause you'll blow a hole thru the pipe. I used a sleeve instead of an expander. Either way...

Ehart, the only way for me to get perfect SS welds like yours, is to have someone else do it.
Can't wait to see it finished.

Re: my next Project

Del, thanks. That's good to know. I met with Steve Tuesday and today I'm going over there to replace his faucet. He selected a ADA tub that is made in China. The welds on the frame are crap. This thing was seriously made in China. It looked like they didn't even use a jig to weld the frame together....

Re: My Projects

When I was in Vietnam, my MOS was 67B20, airplane mechanic. If anyone was to build an airplane like this one, it would be an ultimate project. I have about 1500 hours in fixed wing and about 500 hours in rotary wing. It is the ultimate experience. There is nothing like flying. Of course, they are ex...

Re: my next Project

That is exactly what the lift looks like except for the sling. I'm headed there tomorrow, to change their toilet seat cover. They actually want me to do some welding on the lift! They want me to weld some gussets on the side so when the lift is swung around it won't tip over. I gotta alot of stuff t...

Re: my next Project

BTW, I forgot to tell you guys. I was at the VA on the 9th and my doctor tells me that welding gives off UV rays. He suggests that all exposed areas of skin be covered with good sunscreen. Your exposure the welding light is many more times than exposed to the sun. I thought I'd share that safety tip.

Re: my next Project

Dhazelton, thanks for the post. Sorry I was busy doing a side job for an old friend. Yes, as a matter of fact, I still have to use a flap sander to round off most of the corners before I paint. I haven't done much on the bike lately. I've been doing small jobs and it's really helping out with the bi...

Re: my next Project

Fat Bob, I actually thought about that! I think there is a knurling tool that can be used that clamps on and imbeds knurl marks on the tube. Also, I was thinking about sand paper! Those adhesive strips for non-slip usage that companies use on slippery cement floors would be perfect. Hopefully, the g...

Re: my next Project

Here's a question. I called Home of Chrome and to chrome this would cost fifty bucks! If I did a lot of them, it would be less, of course. My neighbor said that if I polish the handle bars and put a clear coat on it, the shine would last awhile. Anybody hear of this? What clear coat would stick to m...

Re: my next Project

I kinda got a little worried about the welds breaking on the Z bar. Also, it was a little difficult to grind the welds at that angle. I was grinding too much of the tube. So, I laid out the angles pretty much the same as the Z bar. It came out great. http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/bb477/CraigLa...

Re: my next Project

I worked on the bike a little and was able to put together the handle bars and the mount clamps. I originally was going to drill and tap the fork plate, but, if they stripped out, one would have to drill out the holes and put in longer bolts. The clamps are made of aluminum and drilled out 7/8"...
