Re: Music

To me music in the shop is like someone yaking away when I am trying to focus on what I am doing.
I like to listen to the machine, welder, mill, lathe, or whatever I am working with.

Re: Welding hinge block of aluminum to 2x2x.125 square tube

It is being welded to 1/8" thick tubing. What is the problem welding it to the hinge edge trimmed to 1/8" thick
then filling the gap above the weld?

Re: Storing ER70s and 4043 filler

A TIG welder's reputation and status within the welding community is directly proportional to the number of filler rod tubes that they display for other TIG welders to look upon. It's how we impress each other and establish dominance. Academics display their multitude of degrees. Master chefs hang ...

Re: Superflex hose - needs protection or not?

I suppose that if you left your tig hoses laying around on the floor while mig or stick welding that would be a problem. Why would they have to be on the floor? Why couldn't sparks hit a TIG hose looped around the hook on a machine that happens to be near where you're working? My shop is pretty big...

When all else fails try a different tank of argon. I have a small tank that I keep around just for testing.
Some suppliers don't purge them properly when refilling.

Try a different bottle of argon. I have a bottle of argon in my shop that I know is clean and have loaned it out to friends. Four times it turned out to be water contaminated argon. Don't rule that out, it happens more than you would think. edit: Some small welding gas suppliers just refill the smal...
