Re: Tig Welder Advice for Hobby Welder

With your budget, I was also thinking of the PowerTIG 185 - micro. Many of the usual variables are at default settings so as a novice you only have to concentrate on the main settings. And yes include a foot pedal. I found Ally easier with the TIG when I started and the SS for me took a bit more eff...

Re: My first tig weld

Very good start to your TIG, but the lounge room floor is perhaps not the best place to practice ;)

Re: Everlast 250ex users please chime in

But getting back to your original question, Even if your Everlast was worthless after 5 years you would still be no worse off than buying a new big brand. I am sure that you would lose at least the value of the Everlast machine off the the top of what you would pay for the big brand after 5 years an...

Re: Everlast 250ex users please chime in

Yes no problem, I am assuming an internal fault in the power supply tripping the circuit breaker. I reset it and tripped again. It can happen with the best of them and the best thing was the immediate response from Everlast in getting a replacement to me in a couple of days being two and half years ...

Re: Everlast 250ex users please chime in

It,s always a hard decision what to buy, I am in Australia, bought my 250 EX about two and a half years ago. It has welded nicely mostly aluminium and some stainless. My machine did play up just recently, I sent an email to Everlast Aus and a replacement turned up two days later. Amazing service, I ...

Re: Welding Table project

Fisher. Do you use metal sawhorses for your fabrication? Alexa Just a home user with very limited space, and just improvise for what ever I am doing at the time. But yeah I have a variety of adjustable stands, trestles, or tack up a jig. Then there is always the floor, I hate the floor... Often fab...

I get a similar effect if I get the filler rod too close to the tungsten

Re: Welding Table project

A little welding table is a great addition to any workshop, I keep modding mine, now has wheels and a fold down vice at the end to give a flat table, vice also locks at 90 and 45 degrees...

Re: Footpedal....No sir!

Since I started with my TIG about 18 months back I have pretty much used the pedal and I would say become too reliant on it and not not setting good values on the machine. Even doing the karate kid thing at times and I know it is not practical to be doing this so I will be learning to TIG with a to...

Re: first time on aluminum today

Just get as many hours in as possible, just easy positions to start with and once you are getting decent results push yourself into more difficult situations. But it is hours on the torch that will make you good at it. Experiment with everything.

Re: TIG Aluminium Welding - Correct?

Yeah it looked like it was all going well. I too just blunt end the tungsten and slightly bevel the corners with that type of butt joint, but with lanthanated electrodes I will do a half point if welding anything I want more focused heat and less current. I was a bit concerned watching you sharpen t...

A WIA 150S for general steel work and a Kempi 350 Fast MIG pulse for Ally. Both are fabulous and easy to use machines.
And I don't work for either of those companies lol.

I too have had 1st class service from Everlast Australia. My 250 EX recently had a little glitch, sent an email explaining my problem and a replacement machine turned up two days later with a follow up phone call to make sure all was good. Been giving plenty of use too. Couldn't ask for better reall...

Re: Using Steel as Backing for Aluminium Tig.

I have been using a big chunk of ally 40 x 40 mm, seems to work well, sometimes wrap some thin copper sheet being easier or cheaper to get, over it, haven't managedto weld to it yet..
