Re: Help me with my Aluminum issue
Looks to me like the arc was just wandering a bit. This happens to me at low amperage settings. Crank up the power a bit and see if it stabilizes. Some machines don't handle low current very well. Also, 3/32 tungsten is pretty big for that thin of material.

MIG/TIG outside corner joints?
I've been building several aluminum tanks lately and have been fighting my gas coverage when doing outside corner joints. Have you guys come up with any tricks to keep the coverage consistent? Most of what I'm doing is 1/8" 6061-T6 both MIG and TIG.

Re: Painted Aluminium Boat Welding
A broken in flap disk works well. I don't like using new ones on boats since the aluminum is usually pretty thin and new flap disks can take a lot of material off quickly.

I'm currently at $100/hr for field work which is pretty much the going rate in my area (southcentral Alaska).

Re: craters especially at end of bead, how to prevent these
Keep adding a small amount of filler as you come off the pedal slowly. Pull the filler off just before the arc is too cold to melt the filler.

Re: Do you make money at home?
I've been running my side business for almost four years now. When I decided to start the business, I went to our state university and took a few welding courses to have some paperwork to back me up. It started off slow, just doing word of mouth jobs for friends and I landed a couple small fab jobs ...

Re: Looking to buy metal saw..
I've got a Ridgid 14" abrasive chop saw and a Morse 14" Metal Devil (~$500 on Amazon) dry cut saw. Since I bought the Morse (about 2 yrs ago), the Ridgid rarely comes off the shelf. The dry cut saws are much more accurate and fast for general cutting. If I need to cut something really heav...

Re: Metal cutting blade on a circular saw
Jesus lol. Didn't feel any resistance as you were cutting whatever was on top Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk I was dropping in on a piece of 1/4" from above. I thought it was taking a little too long but it cut right through. The key with these blades is to not hog them. If you are makin...

Re: Dry-cut saws, revisited.
I've got the Morse 14" Metal Devil (~$500 shipped on Amazon). It's been a great saw. My only complaint is the clamping system doesn't have the quick release. Other than that, it has been flawless. A lower tooth count will make the blades last longer. It came with a 48T and lasted about a year f...

Re: The answer for can you weld this.
The boat would be no problem. I fix them all the time. The reason they are riveted is because they use a light gauge aluminum to keep the boat light weight and riveting is easier than welding them out. The aluminum is usually 6061 and welds just fine. The gas tank in the bumper is a new one....

If he's playing with balance, he's on AC. I agree on a gas issue. Low flow, poor coverage. Are you using pure argon??

Re: Tig welding aluminum questions......
Sounds to me like you are simply going too slow. When you start your bead, hit it pretty hard right off the bat to get the puddle established, then back off a bit when you start laying your bead. If the puddle is slow to develop at first, turn up the amps. I run my Dynasty wide open for aluminum and...
