Very nice Markus, would like to give that TipTIG a try. Is this stainless or maybe duplex?
Plain carbon. You could contact TIPTIG USA and ask if they are doing any demos etc in your area.

Re: Copper Tig - Thick to thin material

1. Always use filler wire that contains deoxidizers
2. Preheat thick parts
3. Argon-Helium mix works well on copper

Take a minute or two and have a look at this http://www.twi-global.com/technical-kno ... art-1-111/

Re: 316 Stainless

When should I use 308L, 309L or 316L filler metal? 308L (including ER308LSi) is predominately used on austenitic stainless steels, such as types 301, 302, 304, 305 and cast alloys CF-8 and CF-3. For high temperature applications such as in the electrical power industry, the high carbon 308H electrod...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Thanks buddy! Total time was one and a half hour, but had some problems with water running down the pipe. I think 20 minutes per weld is quite correct guess. I like to do lay wire root, which is really fast. With this technigue I am able to get that line in the middle of the weld and then I know tha...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

I usually weld stainless high purity pipes with orbital, but every now and then I need to get my hands dirty with mild steel :D Which is quite fun to do for a change. No purging etc. just weld that shit together  So saturday's quick job. Nothing special, just get to work, weld it and get back t...

My weld polish up good enough for my needs so as long as strong and stainless. So I guess its time to just keep welding and get better if not as shiny as I would like, welds. Thanks Mark Yup,but don't forget what you have learned in this thread. Welding with contaminated gas is relevant to welding ...

Re: Stainless never shines

Yup you definitely have a gas leak somewhere. So you tested the welder for leaks and it's OK. On both sides of the solenoid, if understood correctly. If so then there is only two options. Your both torches leaks or you have a bad bottle of argon. What you mean by checking visually? You need a tester...

Re: Stainless never shines

Hello Mark Let me try to help you. 1. First try to get a perfectly silver puddle . Clean the metal etc. as you did before. Flush the torch with argon, because moisture goes inside the hose/torch cable and it can take even minutes to clear it away. After this, set couple of second to your preflow and...

Re: Help me learn to see the joint

Perhaps you have too dark lens on your helmet. Droppin from shade 10 to 9 can sometimes make a big difference. Also I personally prefer dark shirts while welding, cause bright shirt reflects the light inside to ur hood and makes difficult to see. There really is not any "tricks" to see the...

Re: Too much heat? Contamination?

- Change your collet body to gas lens. - I'm pretty sure that you have a gas leak in your system. Check every connection/joint with soapy water or so and make sure you wont get any bubbles. Your welds does look like there have been a lot of oxygen mixed into shielding gas. Oxygen tends to make welds...

Nice video, thanks once again! Silicon acting with iron oxides?? er70-s2.png er70-s6.png S6 creates more fluid weld puddle and also have better wetting properties says Lincoln's website. Outside of the weld looks indeed quite bad compared to S2, but what about the inside of the weld? What if S6 brou...

Re: How toxic is tungston?

Thoriated tungstens are radioactive, but Thorium emits only alpha radiation. Which is not that harmfull on skin, but inhaling it is. Also I would not inhale any heavy metal dust etc. Those are never good to your health. Nowadays some brands are trying to avoid selling Thoriated tungstens, because it...

Yup and the extra fun part is that every heat batch is different to weld and that is why orbital welding is so damn hard sometimes.

Copper and Nickel institute offers free guides for welding these alloys. http://www.stainless-steel-world.net/pdf/12014.pdf Main things shortly: - Keep everything clean - Avoid weaving, because alloy is sluggish and generates porosity. - Keep your heat input low - And for last but not least! Select ...
