Re: miller dial arc HF

FWIW I have given up trying to afford an AC TIG welder. To do what I want to do, I need to spend $2,500, and it is just not going to happen without divine intervention.

Re: Welding autobody metal

this is where ALL the restoration shows get it ALL wrong. I truly hate that they ALL show people MIG welding sheet metal. fusion TIG welding or even very, very low heat oxy/fuel welding is a far better way to weld auto body sheet metal. if you TRY do any real metal working to a MIG joint or a TIG we...

new TIG machines at differenet price points.

since around me used AC TIG machines come up for sale less often than .22 ammo at walmart I would like to see comparisons of different new machines at different pricepoints. up to a grand will get you a china made TIG. :( $1,500 will get you a basic Hobart or diversion. ;) $2,000 will get you a Linc...

Re: miller dial arc HF

In regards to whether they are a good machine or not, never once have I heard my dad complain about his, and he's had it close to 30 years maybe? It's been around as long as I can remember, and I'm 22! FWIW this machine was made in 1976. the guy cleaned it and repainted it. it looks nice, but unles...

Re: miller dial arc HF

Have ya looked at ssc controls for the pedal? no ssc never came up in my web searches the front of the machine has 2 separate 3 prong twist lock connectors the miller foot pedal uses an old school rheostat to control amperage on one of the 3 prongs then the other opens and closes the gas valve. I f...

Re: miller dial arc HF

I think I am going to pass on the Dialarc. it has a gas valve not a solenoid, it uses a particular foot pedal (Miller RFC-23A) that is almost $400. then with the cost of a torch and even a home made water cooler it just gets too pricy.

miller dial arc HF

What would it cost me to MacGyver a foot petal and TIG torch to a miller dial arc HF?
are they good machines? one is available locally for a decent price with an argon tank.

anyway to test a TIG machine W/out an argon bottle?

still looking for used TIG welders, none of them seem to come with an argon tank. and some flat out do not have a torch.
is there any way to really test a TIG without it being set up and ready to run?

Could anyone and everyone please answer these few questions. I really need your help. 1. What type of welding glove do you use? a soft TIG glove 2. Do you use this glove exclusively? no 3. If yes why? If no why are you a multi-brand user? Please rank the following on a scale of 1-10 (1 being the lo...

Re: What’s the best NEW AC-DC TIG welder for under $1,500?

Fred, You don't have to own an Argon tank, a lot of welding supply stores lease or rent them for either a daily, monthly or like I do, a yearly lease. I pay $69 up front for a whole year and then just pay for the fill, exchanged for a different bottle each time. That way I never have to worry about...

Re: What’s the best NEW AC-DC TIG welder for under $1,500?

I have figured out a different way to finance my TIG welder (same budget) I just sold my AC/DC stick welder, and with this other source of money I have enough to buy the Eastwood now, but I don't have an argon tank so I will wait and see how much I can sock away while I look for an affordable argon ...

Re: What’s the best NEW AC-DC TIG welder for under $1,500?

any thoughts on the Hobart EZ TIG 165i?
is there any real difference between it at $1,400 and the miller diversion 165?
it seams pretty basic but it is within budget.
the eastwood 200A machine has a lot more controls and is 2/3rds the price but the Hobart is USA made.

Re: What’s the best NEW AC-DC TIG welder for under $1,500?

It is really hard to read thru all the crap on other forums about the different china machines. It seem like if an everlast arrives and it is not DOA right out of the box then people are happy with them but they still arrive DOA. Same with Eastwood rebranded ones. But at least they seem to have a s...

Re: What’s the best NEW AC-DC TIG welder for under $1,500?

I know you said you want new, but I think the trick to used is finding the stuff too big for most guys to want. For example my tig is a 900 lb brute with no fancy anything - but amp range is 5 to 460 amps. Welds thin aluminum as nicely as 1/4" aluminum. Those 165 to 180 class machines won't do...

Re: What’s the best NEW AC-DC TIG welder for under $1,500?

I passed on an Exerlast because of the bad reviews. I would look at the Thermal Arc 186 if you want ac/dc tig. If it was just dc tig I would look at the Thermal Arc fabricator series. The Thermal Arc 181I is on sale for $699. http://www.weldersupply.com/P/538/Th...Fabricator181i I already have DC l...

What’s the best NEW AC-DC TIG welder for under $1,500?

I know that limits me to mainly china crap. Before you say “buy a used red or blue machine” let me say that around where I live people think that their TIG welders are made out of gold . If you are looking at a 3 year old $3k miller the asking price is going to be $2,750 without an argon bottle. Peo...

Re: Lincoln powertig 225 VS Everlast 250EX

If you want opinions... One thing Lincoln has, that Everlast does not, is a long track record of quality machines. :D I'd buy a used Lincoln or Miller in good condition over a new Everlast any day. I would second that unfortunately a used Lincoln around my area rages from 85% of new to 120% of new....

After a recent surgery I have been told I have bradycardia, apparently a dozen different doctors didn’t notice my pulse rate of 45 beats per minute. I finally see a cardiologist on Monday. The consensus at the hospital was I will need a pacemaker. I thought nothing of it until I found some stuff onl...
