Re: Different fillers
So i don’t even have a tig welder yet, but I sure would love to learn! I was wondering, since there are different grades of alluminium and stainless do you need to have different filler wires as well or can you use the same? Like using the same filler for 6061 and 7075? Thanks! Don't teach yourself...

Re: Beginner Q: one welder to do it all?
Inverters in general are very nice, weld excellent, consume less power, and will die without being able to be fixed (in many/most cases). That last fact has to be balanced in the equation in my humble opinion. They can always be fixed. Just comes down to finding the component(s) that went pop and r...

Would some 1/16" or 3/32" hard facing stick rods be an option ? Polish after flux is removed.

You could call Lincoln Tech. Some years back , a friend bought a Idealarc 300, ex USN ( Mare Island ), called the tech line with the serial #, and Lincoln had all details of the original spec / hook up.

Get some draw ( wing nut) type clecos, they will make your life a lot easier and use their holes for your plug welds.
Use a staggered ,two row, layout if possible, so you have a good fit on the backside.

Here's a manual that will give you info on the required power supply ; that's something to be considered.

I've briefly used one many years ago and liked it a lot, far easier to use that the Aerowave we had. The owner used it on a daily basis; the reason he replaced it was it cooked the main board and one wasn't available at the time and he needed a machine yesterday. He did eventually get a board and pa...

What grade aluminum is your base metal ?
There's the possibility it is a non-weldable grade.

Around 2002 , KTM were using 7020 tube for their moto-x and enduro sub frames, also the Dakar V twins, and welded with 5087 rod. Modified sub frames were never post weld heat treated and never cracked. As KTM have expanded ( ownership, etc ) it's possible they have changed to a (cheaper) 5000 series...

We didn't figure for any distortion in the pipe, it's there but not a concern. I bet if we Lasered the flanges the middle one would be 1/4" or so lower than the end ones... distortion isnt something that's typically thought about on the bigger stuff, especially here since install is going to b...

Thanks Josh, I just measured a water cooled 35 adapter and the connector plug-in diam is 1/2 ", so going by that, this thing is special size.
It would be nice though if we could borrow a 25 to check.

Dinse style connector, Stahlwerk 200A
I'm trying to come up with a decent torch package for a friends Stahlwerk 200A TIG unit. It has a Dinse style connector on the power cable ( with a separate gas line, M16 x 1.5 ) but the connector is 8.75mm diam; height at the divot is 9.85mm, and the divot is at the very end of the fitting, The rec...
