TIG welding ss 321 filler rod

Hi all, When welding ss 321 where the finished structure is being used at prolonged elevated temperatures,( in the 425 to 850 °C), it is required to use filler rod 321 or 347. 321 filler rod is restricted for tig welding only, since the stabilising agent used in this rod (Ti) would mostly deteriorat...

Use of ss 304 in heat applications

Hi all Recently I came across a graph where the relationship of ss, their carbon contents versus time exposed to elevated temperatures and sensitization is shown. From these graph, I see that a ss, containing 0.03% C (For example 304L) has its most critical temp. at 600°C. At this temperature, sensi...

Re: Water cooled tig torches.

Hello all, many thaks for your replies. In the meantime, as I had a new torch assembled by the weldshop, I asked these people also about the subject. One thing is clear now, Yes, the power lead of a water cooled tig torch is directly surrounded by a water barrier. (At leased all the ones they have e...

Water cooled tig torches.

Hi all, regarding the anathomy of a water cooled tig torch, it seems that the electrical power cable is also cooled by a water jacket. Is that cable directly surronded by the water, or is it still (electrically) insulated from the water jacket? If it is directly surrounded by the cooling water, ok f...

scaling on 4130 tube when tig welding

Hi all, I frequently have the problem, that when TIG welding smal diameter, thin walled tubing, after welding one side, and reaching over to the next side, I find this side seriously scaled. (I had the problem last when welding a cluster of 4130 1/4 x .035 to 3/8 x .035 tubing) I believe it is due t...

Re: Consistent quality butwelding this alu sheet

Hi all, no, it is not an air pressure problem, since I leave the filler cap off. If I have to weld a closed cavity, I always drill a small hole , wich I close up as a last action. (Common practice I tought) As I mentioned before, if possible , I put a SS strip under the bead, wich works fine. ( Does...

Consistent quality butwelding this alu sheet

Hi all, I have problems in keeping consistent quality in but welding of thin, (.040) alu sheet. I make frequently small reservoirs, out of .040 AlMg3 alu sheet. Lots of butwelding herefore is used. For most of the welds, there is no "back support" possible. (When putting a SS sheet against...

Re: Classic transfo versus inverter tig

bassboy1, thanks for your reply. The arcmaster 185 acdc is not offered over here.(Belgium). At least not with the dealer I am dealing with. Anyway I can ask if he can get one, if the price difference would be beneficial. I am invited by that dealer to play around with that welder in his demeo room, ...

Classic transfo versus inverter tig

Hi all, I am using a classic transfo ACDC tig outfit(Fimer 160 ACDC). My major activity is thin walled SS and aluminium (.040 inch) I have only upslope, downslope and pre-post flow adjustment, besides a very good remote current control with rotating adj. knob at the torch. Would a modern inverter ou...
