Re: Is this normal for a weldor

I don't know if they are still down there, but the large instruments were built by the shop that I work for back in the day.

Thanks for the info. I just piced up a #8 cup to try. I will order a gas lens kit soon as my budget allows. For now I will go through what you posted and will get back to you when I`m done. My machine is all manual, so I am the pre flow and post flow control. My Tungsten stays clean, I guess I eith...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Not bad BigD. We were going to to get some titanium donated to the school by a local business but we still don't have a 300 amp torch and we were concerned about ventilation. So: How many amps did you use? Did you feel sick afterwards breathing it in? Why would you need a 300a torch? Most people we...

buying some pop or beer. pop? are you from the north? :) It's pop. Get over it, like meow! No, There's no "horse-riding" going on here from anywhere, Oscar. It's just an expressed and related opinion derived from the Austrian Economic School (which is not a building), and not a cause for whining or demandingness. Or, have you appointing yourself as a moderator here? Or, are you...

Re: How do these welds look?

The only time I intentionally seek the approval of another welder is when he is teaching me something. A little time on facebook welding forums will show you how selfish people can be. I had the opportunity to take close-up photographs of welds on an engine removed from the space shuttle Atlantis (...

Re: A hood that doesn't flash when the forklift drives by???

I'm looking for hood that isn't quite as annoying. I'm using a Lincoln 3350, which is great, except when the pipe fitters leave the forklift running behind me for extended periods of time. Other guys say they have the same problem, so It seems it is common for any hood using optical sensors...so I ...

This what I get paid for half a day of work normally when I have the shop fully staffed and am not supposed to be welding. I set a machine for someone and ask them to articulate what they do and do not like about the way that it welds and adjust accordingly, while trying to impress upon them the imp...

That's what I figured lol. I want to do an S62 car, but don't want to pay for one. We did a Z3 Mcoupe S62 at a shop I worked at in Ohio, and it was a rowdy unit.

Pic of the shortened driveshaft after it came back from balancing. My first time doing this, friend of mine was swapping in a 6 speed which is much longer than his 5 but the flange is the same. Needed to take 5" out of it, the seam is in the bottom third in the pic. Somehow managed to do it wi...

Sorry about the delay in the review, I'm awful at following up when I say things like that! After welding with it all week, I can honestly say that the clarity is amazing. The head gear is one of my new favorites, so its comfortable to wear all day. One kid said "Man, that's as clear as my 9200...

Initial conclusions after the few beads I ran on an exhaust: I actually have no idea what my hands are doing as I can now see what is and isn't happening lol. You haven't mentioned if you are using an air-cooled tig torch or a water-cooled tig torch. Both are available in 25-ft lengths. Have you pulled the handle off your current tig torch to see/measure what kind of fitting it has? Wp280 out of the box on a Dynasty should have a collar lock on the AR li...

Also, Ar/He mix will make your dynasty 200 weld like a whole different animal even on thin aluminum. Probably not worth the added expense, but at work, where we have bosses that pay for gas, we use helium on anything over 1/4" even with a Dynasty 350, as it makes consumable life go up because y...

Re: DC TIG aluminum

Actually, quite the opposite is true. You'll have much higher penetration with lower amps with DCEN and 100%He than you will with any manner of AR/He mix at a given amperage. You don't experience near the amount of warpage, as the overall heat input is lessened dramatically. The parts have to be su...
