Re: Stick welding with Everlast 255 EXT or EX

I don't do a lot of stick welding, but what I have done on my 255 EXT has been good. I'm sure that more time under the hood would make my welds even better.

I have the same setup ^ " Milwaukee deep cut band saw and got the SWAG Off Road table " and use that more than any other cutting tools.

Re: Bicycle crank repair

Thanks everyone for your replies to this thread. I wound up returning the bike to my neighbor. It was going to be a free job and I prefer not to do jobs if I can't do them right. Finding and sourcing tools and supplies turned out to be too expensive, and my neighbor did not want me spending too much...

Re: Bicycle crank repair

The bike is a Ascent Diamond Back. The crank has a part number Shimano FC-M450. It's all alloy and not with a steel insert...but that would be much stronger.

Bicycle crank repair

I got a bicycle from a neighbor that has a pedal stripped out. I'm looking for suggestions on how to repair it. I don't know what type of aluminum it is. What filler rod would people suggest? I'm thinking that I would weld the entire hole and re-drill and tap it. I've never made this type of repair ...

Thanks everyone for the replies. I just ordered some of the bolt covers. It looks like they will fill the bill. As usual this forum came through with flying colors. I didn't know such an item existed.

Hose caps

connection.jpg I'm looking for some ideas on what I might use to cap the ends of my TIG torch quick connect fittings. This would be to keep out dirt on the argon and keep the coolant in on the cooling tubes. They are about 5/16 in diameter. I'm currently using baby bottle nipples but they are a bit...

Re: My summer structural job. Slideshow

That looks like a big task. It must have been challenging but rewarding to build all of that stuff. I hope that they find lots of gold to pay for all of the materials and labor for the machinery. Another job well done as usual.

Re: DIY things to rest your arm/wrist/hand when tig welding

The tubing doesn't matter what wall thickness is. My longer setup is 1/16 stainless and the shorter is 1/8 regular steel. It is what my metal store had on hand at the time.

Re: DIY things to rest your arm/wrist/hand when tig welding

I made a couple of rests from 3/4" OD tubing, 1" OD 1/8" wall square tubing and 1/4 x 20 thumb screws welded to 1/4" plate. The tall one goes on the floor with an anvil on it and the short one gets clamped to the welding table.

Re: Is pulse worth the extra money???

When I was 'moving the location' of those holes, the bead would stay on the edge of the thin metal rather than go over the edge. The buildup was quite minimal by the requirements of the task.

Re: Is pulse worth the extra money???

I've used pulse when building up the edges on holes through plate metal to relocate the location of the shaft going through. I have done this on a chop saw to get it to cut square and on a bolt hole on a tractor.

Re: Stainless Flat stock grid

Stainless is a different animal. I tried building a rack for a gas grille last year. I was fighting with my local metal supplier who promised he could get the stainless in a couple of days that turned into a several of weeks. I had one day after receiving the metal to complete the job. In Jody's wor...

Re: Question for noobs, pros and all inbetween or above!

I think for me, the biggest issue was being able to see the puddle and the material that I was welding. The place where I first started had strong sunlight shining in and was coming to the back of my helmet. It wasn't until I did some welding after sundown that I 'saw the light' so to speak. I was r...

304 stainless rods

I'd like to see a video of welding 304 stainless rods together. I'm trying to build a rack for a gas grill to replace the rusty mild steel one out of 3/16" rods. I've never seen a video of welding rods, just flat, angle and tubular stock.

Re: What do the 'Know it All' guys say to you?

I remember my metal shop teacher in High School (long long time ago) had a saying when he finished a weld....Guaranteed not to rot rust bust chip crack peel or come apart at the seams. He would rattle that off so fast.

Re: Fix the leak on a Aluminium bottle Can

You probably could use something from www.northsearesins.com/ . They have products to seal a leak that are cured with blue light. It's somewhat like the resin the dentist uses that is cured in a similar fashion.
