Re: Which chopsaw or Bandsaw would you get?

I need something in my life- a better way to cut metal. I am just a garage hobby guy, and I like to tinker with just about everything. I am collecting enough stuff to make a new table and cart, but I need soemthing that will cut consistent angles on angle, round and bar stock. I am thinking a chops...

Re: Tig Welder Voltage rating question

The duty cycle ratings are for the amperage listed at that voltage, since the distance the tungsten is from what is being welded changes the voltage; the machine should be able to weld for 6 minutes ( for a 60% duty cycle rating) before having to cool the remaining 4 minutes (since duty cycle is bas...

Re: Massive structeral repair...........HAHAHAHAHA

The little buzzbox surprised me, as despite it's seemingly poor OCV it would, with coaxing, maintain a stable arc. The 7014 (also from HF) impressed me for it's ability to tolerate the shortcomings of the bozzbox. (I did have to bake the rod, as my first attempts took so long to get a stable arc th...

Setting Preflow. Does the math look right???

So, I've been wondering how to figure out, how much preflow is necessary to purge the total distance my lines run from flowmeter to torch, without using more preflow than necessary. Then I got to thinking what does the math say? I used the equation for finding the volume of a cylinder: pi x r^2 x h ...

I found this video, and in your case you'd just need to modify the jig to get the curvature your wanting as the spring goes from the outside edge to the midway point of the spring.

Re: Buildpro table?

I bought it from Industrial-toolcrib which is part of or somehow connected to Lehigh Valley Abrasives. I got the 94x46 table and the 120 piece tooling kit. I've got enough room for the table and I didn't want to have to buy another one later. A lot of our customer projects are around 4 to 5 feet. I...

I have yet to MIG on my table, just been TIG welding. I'd ask Jody (Site Admin / Owner of Welding Tips and Tricks) about MIG and the BuildPro Table. He uses a BuildPro at his welding shop in the Atlanta area. But, I do not see an issue if an anti-spatter spray is used or PAM Cooking Spray.

Re: New to TIG

It is not that the amperage increases with the change in size of the tungsten electrode, but each tungsten electrode size has an ideal current carrying capacity for its minimum and maximum amperage. If the amperage is too high for a certain size tungsten, one thing it can do is start to erode away t...

Black Nitride helps with corrosion resistance. I have a few parts that have this treatment done on my AR-15. (if you are not familiar with black nitride it is actually infused into the surface layers of the metal instead of like coatings that lay on top of the surface.) If you are interested in want...

What percentage of EN are you using for the AC Balance?

If the aluminum is very clean, I have used 80% EN for my AC Balance without any issues (the puddle is silver and clean). Though other occasions I needed to reduced my EN to 68%-70% for my AC Balance in order to maintain a clean pudde.

I'm looking at different flowmeters used for inert gases Argon, Argon/CO2, and Helium made by Smith and also by Victor. Looking at their specifications, some flowmeters list a preset pressure of 25-30 psi, and other's having a preset pressure of 80 psi. I'm not asking about the flowmeter's SCFH rang...

To save on the cost of back purging decorative art work, the flux others have mentioned is Solar Flux Type B. It is a powder that is mixed with Methanol/Methyl Alcohol before applying.

My Interpretation of a TIG Cooler Build.

I started by welding up an aluminum reservoir measuring 12" L x 6" W x 6" H. This gave me a capacity of 432 cubic inches, or 1.87 gallons. The radiator originally was an aluminum automotive heater core measuring 2" D x 7" W x 7-3/4" H. The radiator is cooled by a 120V A...

Re: Who runs a filter on there watercooler?

If you are running a Procon Series 1 Pump with an integral strainer, the strainer's job is to keep particles big enough to damage the pump out of it. If the pump used doesn't have a strainer, then all you'd need to do is install a t-strainer which is what a lot of the water coolers use. As for the P...
