Re: Tig Welding Tool Steel 01 To 01 & A2 To A2

Does anyone have tool steel tig welding experience? 01 to 01 or A2 to A2, unhardened? I would like to make some specialized socket handle style woodworking chisels and would like to weld the socket handle portion to the 1/4" thick flat stock rather than machining the whole tool from a large pi...

Re: Miller PAPR 9400i

I own and use one of these regularly.. It's a great setup.. I'm always amazed how much better my lungs feel now after a day or even a few hours of work.

I never realized my lungs were being effected as much as they were.. Expensive but great safety product..

Re: Aluminum fuel tank questions

The pickup depends on what you want to accomplish? What size motor, how much fuel do you need to deliver.. What kind of engine, Inboard, inboard outboard, outboard.. How large a tank.. You get to a certain size and you need internal supports.. More information would be helpful to get a proper answer..

Re: VW Beetle Trans

the transmission cases do have a large amount of magnesium in them.. The problem I have seen is corrosion from moisture around the welded area after a few years exposure.. We use lots of salt on the roads during winter.. It makes the area around the weld get white and fuzzy. I have used 4043 or 5653...

Mig welding is almost a have to. If you were to try and tig weld it all together you would be there for an awfully long time.

Re: Using a Y to mix helium and argon

Its so you can't have back flow from one cylinder/regulator to another.. I use reg/flowmeters that are all 50psi intermediate pressure ( from here on IP).. it's handy to know if yours are more or less, and some are more some are less.. if your reg is set at 50psi IP on your argon tank and your reg/f...

dirty arc gap inside the machine.. These points need to be cleaned every so often.. If the preflow is on but there is no HF then you can just about bet your gap is dirty.

I'd use some bronze/brass filler on the jaws that would make contact with the work piece..

Re: Acetone, Alcohol, Thinner.

nail polish remover is not the thing to use. It has skin/nail moisturizer in them usually.

The plain jane Acetone is what I use. I buy it by the gallon at any paint store. Last one I bought was at Walmart.
