Re: Another new guy...now looking at TIG machines

Hey Fastforward, I have all Everlast equipment and have had good luck with them. I did have the 256 combo but the only problem is with the 256 the duty cycle is cut in half because of adding the Plasma to the welder even though they are the same as the 250 amp TIG with a 60% duty cycle. I sold the 2...

Re: bare hand welding

I would not suggest the latex gloves because ( i know you are TiG welding ) But any type of spatter from touching your tougnsten or even grabbing hot metal might melt the glove to your hand and act like napalm. I know every time I go the to welding supply I try on different gloves and founf that I l...

Re: carbon steel spitting

The only time I had that problem with bridging like that was trying to weld caster wheels to a frame and they where a brite steel that must have had a lot of zinc or galvanizing it the metal It would spit and spark like I was stick welding it so I opted to bolt them on.

Re: overheated tig welded steel

How much time do you have set for pre-flow and post flow. Are you keeping the torch over the end of your weld for a few seconds or until the heat dies down a bit?
And on your re-start set your pre-flow for at least a few seconds to make sure you are getting coverage.

Re: Having trouble tig welding aluminum

That looks like to me that you have a bottle of CO2 insted of Argon.. I had that type of result when I bought my TIG aand had a bottle left over from my MIG and that was the same sugaring crap that would come up. But check your gas , if you take it back to the supply they can just smell the gas diff...

Re: Anyone using Solar Flux when TIG'ing stainless?

Jake, on flat plate you can take a plate of copper and clamp to the back of the section you are welding for gas coverage but on tubing if there are any gaps at all you will need to back gas the tubing to get cleaner welds on stainless. I have not heard of using a flux on tig but you never know , if ...

NIce Fine there wood motorsports, those are great welders and last for years and years. I dont think I would ad the digital readouts to the welder unless you just find a good deal on one and "want it" , Once you get in the range of amps you have the foot pedal anyway. And from what I rememb...

Re: what am I doing wronb?

Joe , cut your gas down to between 5 and 7 lph 10 is getting too high and might be getting blown away with too much flow. The off color area looks like gas coverage. Both welds show that brown haze around that indecates gas coverage. A #7 cup is OK but I usually have a #6 on mine , It looks like low ...

Re: My pp256 and first projects

Good start Keven, On the practice welds for aluminum cut your ac balance back a bit , I found that with my 256 I usually have it almost all the way to the left or you get a real wide cleaning band , Are you working in pulse mode? It takes a little getting used to , when I started playing with pulse ...

Re: question about fumes

Hey Joe, How you like the welder? ( if this is Joe from Knoxville) But he might have beed referring ti MIG with flux core wire . But that is for steel not aluminum. Also the MIG is more of a Spray Transfer welding the wire is basically sprayed onto the metal not puddled up like with TIG welding with...

Re: quick ?

The weld looks good , what rod are you using . The 4043 is usually not as shiney as 5356 rod ,But I think (i might have them mixed up) but 4043 will just turn black if anodized? And It looks like from the picture that is about the least amount of cleaning that you will be able to get down to . The s...

I have got to admit some NICE WELDS there. Better than I have ever been able to get to on project. I have migged on and off for a few years then got into TIG in Febuary of this year , mostly aluminum, Now working with a bigger welde ( I started with a Miller Diversion) but some of the stuff I was do...

Re: New member here and i have a question

On a weld like that what I usually do is put a small tack weld about 3/4" from the ends to hold into place , I know that is common knowledge but I do the first tack on the far end then do the tack on the end that I will be starting then after that tack just go right to welding , that way the he...

Re: Aluminum hot cracking

I have had the same problem when just trying to fusion weld pieces together , I think it is a problem of dirt or inclusions in the weld puddle .not sure though , but when I run in to that problem and just run a bead over it it does not crack , just if I do a little fusion tacking is when that happen...

No problem Joe, when you get one please post here to see or call me or tech for info. Re: what welder to buy?

Joe if you have the foot pedal connected then you dont use the torch switch. The foot pedal is where you vary your amps. The start and stop amps gives you the ability to set that for the start minimum and end minumum of the the amps..So on your upslope the amps will start at that percentage and the ...

Re: Tig .065 tube to a flange

Hey Gashmore, those can be a big pain also in the small guage tubing you are using.I am not sure if the welder you are using has ac freq control or not but you can turn that up to a more concentrated arc , then start your arc on the 3/16 and when you see it start to puddle then move up to the tubing...

Re: what welder to buy?

You really kind of want the pre and post flow for both welding and the plasma on a multi unit. The pre flow will help perge the lines with argon so you dont get bad starts with no gas and post flow will help with the weld to keep sheilded while the weld cools and in plasma cools down the torch in pl...

Not a problem Joe, Dont rush in to it , that is kind of what I did when I bought the diversion 165 I wanted a TIG at an affordable price and got a decent deal from my local welding supply and went for the Miller. But it is a one use machine just ac and dc TIG. But on the other hand a combo unit all o...
