I started padding beads with 7018 on an old piece of scrap until I had built up quite a block. Then I used a variety of tools to carve and polish it, including a milling machine, band saw, belt grinders, die grinders, carbide burrs, angle grinder with cutoff disk, and even some hand filing. image1.j...

I’ve had a 280dx for a few years and love it. You will too.

Making a Dweore

Greetings y’all. I’ve been away for what feels like forever but am finally able to get back in my shop and get to work. This is a work in progress and is part of my elaborate plan to propose to my sweetie. This is my take on a Dweore, little robots made of junk from Jon Ottinger’s comics. My girlfri...

Re: looking to buy a everlast 255ext or dynasty 280 dx ?

I have the 280 dx but not the water cooled setup. I absolutely love this machine but haven't used a lot of others to compare it to. This machine does very good at the low end, I have welded pop cans together just for fun. It also has plenty of punch in the high end as I found out when I burned up th...

Marketing hype

Looking at harbor freight catalog. They only recently introduced the Hercules house brand and the boxes say “legendary performance” and “heavy duty guaranteed” on them. On the planet which I live on, both of those statements seem to not actually mean anything. Maybe it’s just me. I’m having a mood..

Re: How the hell is everybody?!

Greetings all. I’ve been absent from this forum for quite awhile. Earlier this year I had surgery then spent three months in rehab and finally made it home but am still on doctor ordered bed rest. Looking forward to getting back in the shop. Hope y’all are doing well. Cheers

Rockin' Bear

Made this fellow for a couple of good friends of mine. All reused scrap. Part of a bike frame, old nails and bolts, and sheet metal from an old 55 gallon drum.

Some lol for y'all

So I'm at the Taco Bell drive thru today. I look at the menu and the guy comes on the speaker, "hi, can I take your order?" Now the next bit didn't even register with me until I heard my own voice saying out loud, "uh yeah, I want a naked chicken chips lunchbox." So much mileage ...

Phones in the shop

Even though my phone has an otterbox case and I shut it in a drawer in my toolbox when working in my shop, every couple days it gets to where no one can hear me on it. I take an air nozzle and blast all the mic openings and then it seems ok for a day or so. I'm just wondering if anyone else has this...

Chronatig 211T?

I was recently given some tig filler rod marked Chronatig 211T
The guy I got I from says it for welding cast iron but I haven't found anything online about the stuff.
Can any of you fine folks enlighten me a bit? Thanks.

Cheers.

Help identify cast iron. Spark test.

Greetings, y'all. I am hoping one or more of our erudite members can tell me what sort of cast iron I'm dealing with here and the best procedure to weld it. I'm thinking wrought iron from the looks of the sparks. Thanks.

Protect your eyes

There once was a welder named Lars
Who complained he could only see stars
When he strikes up an arc
His hood won't go dark
So now he just hangs out in bars.

Restoration job cast iron

So I recently acquired this beauty. I haven't had a chance to do a spark test yet but I'm fairly certain it's cast iron. There's a small crack I need to weld up but cast has always been my Achillese' heel. I'd love to hear any suggestions or comments, thanks. File May 18, 7 18 04 PM.jpeg Cheers. -EB

I love doing Buckets lol I've found that shop air and lots of pounding on the plates with a good Hammer helps but it needs to be dry If not it just makes more mud. in the wet case I will usually warm up the repair area first with the old Rosebud then the air and BFH ( BIG FAT HAMMER ) Hope it helps...
