Also preheat and when done welding wrap up on some insulation to it will have a long cool down time.

Just diff ways to deal with cast iron.
Appreciate it!

Re: Part cracking

Thanks for the advice. I had not realized the disc was cast iron and that makes a whole lot of sense as to why its not working. The cracks will not be a big issue in the purpose I am using the part for but I was trying to get some good practice out of the build. Another quick question... When walkin...

Re: Bad electrodes

A couple of weeks ago I had a 1/16" 2% thoriated tungsten split in half while grinding a point on it. It did it on a few different occasions with different sticks. It was a "name brand" electrode. Anybody ever see that before?

Really? Well, that would make sense I guess. And no, I didn't preheat.

Part cracking

Ok, so I recently picked up a Lincoln Squarewave 175pro. I would like to preface this whole topic with the fact that I learned to weld 14 years ago, spent 4 years as a welder and have been out of it for the most part for a decade. I find that I remember just enough to know that I am not doing someth...

Re: Inverters and 6010

UPDATE: I told the Airgas dealer that sold me my machines that they don't run 6010 and we got on speaker phone with Miller who insist it should run it fine. The rod I did the test with is Fourney 6010. The package says it will run AC or DC- or DC+. The Airgas and miller guys says that 6010 is DC on...

Re: Inverters and 6010

Blue Diver why not go ahead and buy the Dynasty? I don't think you'll find a better Tig welder. Then buy an Everlast PowerArc 300. You get adjustable hot start, and arc force. They run 6010 fantastically! http://www.everlastgenerators.com/product/tig-stick/powerarc-300 Like I said, I'm not a fab sh...

Re: Inverters and 6010

xwrench, I appreciate you taking the time to try them out. That is unfortunate to hear. I have been looking into getting a shop machine for a while and had pretty much narrowed it down to the Dynasty series. Now I am not so sure. Not that I am a huge fan of welding 6010 but we are a marine company a...

Any chance you would be interested in running some 6010 to see how it does? I'd be interested to hear about it.

Re: Inverters and 6010

It comes down to the working voltage (as opposed to open circuit voltage) that is required to burn the rod.cellulose rods need more volts to maintain an arc. The second aspect regards the volt/amp curve of a constant current welder i.e. arc welder.transformer based machines have a drooping curve,th...

Re: Inverters and 6010

My Dynasty 300 will run 6010, but in reality it flat sucks with SMAW! :x You are the first person I've talked to on here that says the Dynasty sucks at stick. I am looking into buying a Dynasty 280DX and will use it a lot for stick as well as TIG (A lot for a non-fabrication company anyways). I wou...

Inverters and 6010

In the most recent videos Jody mentioned some inverters not running 6010. First question is why that would happen? I'd like to understand a little of the science behind it. My second question is if the Dynasty series of machines can run 6010?

Touche' Grientime and thank you Jonathon for the well thought out explanation. Not being a big forum guy, I have never really thought about the situations that may come up and I probably would have eventually done one or two things wrong myself so its all good to know.

A down n dirty demonstration of the different wave forms and what they are best suited for would be pretty good. I tend to get all mixed up and resort back to what I know.... the ole' transformer sin wave.

Sears isn't what it used to be. I have had much better luck with the Lowes and Home Depot brand tools. The tools seem to last and when they do break I have had no issues with returning them. I tend to gravitate towards the home depot brand just because the grips on a lot of the hand tools aren't as ...

What is the price per blade for a steel blade and are they readily sold anywhere? I'm not very familiar with these saws but used to cut a lot of thin alum with a standard dewalt chop saw and 80T blades. Would the Rage2 or Morse do that much better than a std wood chop saw? I'm assuming so but not su...

I hadn't thought about using the nationwide availibility of red-d-arc. Found a Dynasty 300dx right off the bat, some invertec 350's all around the $2500 range. I did that in just a couple of minutes but will go through more thoroughly later. Are there any other equipment companies that I may not kno...
