Why would my electrode split at the tip?

The handle is not the best place to ground because it is held on with rivets that corrode. Try close to the metal that is being welded.

Sorry that I did not say that the metal is aluminum .
To AKweldshop I did not wake up one morning and know how to weld like you must have.

It is time to refill my tig machine gas. Would a mix help on aluminum and still be okay on other metal?

I am trying to weld a 1/8" thick 2" square tube to 1/4" plate. What amps etc is needed?

should the lead to my flex head and the handle get to hot to touch?

It was tig on aluminum. The first few inches were fine and then it sooted up and quit puddling.

HI, Is there a quick reference video that shows bad welds and what caused them.
I have to spend lots of time looking for the video I think has the answer to my results.
