Re: How to weld near threaded holes

If I was doing that, I wouldn't be putting any bolt in there, definitely not stainless, not a steel with zinc chromate bathed in Malox, Pepto-Bismol or anything else. The stainless will gall even in aluminum. The oils and the zinc chromate will burn off. Just TIG weld it, run a tap through whe...

Re: Prediction for future weld lens

Yes Optrel e684 already has automatic shade adjustment. Best TIG welding helmet in market, especially for aluminum. Meanwhile it's still 90% operator, 10% equiptment. Buy a cheap fixed shade hood and go burn rod, wire, whatever is your preference. No hood makes an expert out of novice. You can't buy...

No sponsorship here, everything is paid from my pocket for WHAT WORKS. It's a Dynasty and you get what you pay for. I've welded with LOTS of other machines, from old reliable huge transformer machines, to new high tech wizardry. Hands down, there is none better than the Dynasty, but you have to pay ...

Unfortunately you might be trying to polish a turd. Never fun when they ask for help AFTER they already effd it up. It's faster and easier to just start over and do it right the first time.

You won't be welding aluminum of all thicknesses for under $1200. You won't be welding very much aluminum for that price. They're all chinese welders.....yes, even lincoln. Now, I know that's gonna ruffle some feathers around here but you don't have to take my word for it. Just look at all the Chin...

Re: Welding Rod Of Choice!!!

You can cover just about 99% of your welding with 6011 & 7018. If you're not welding oil pipelines or bridges don't worry about storing rod in an oven. Buy 5lb boxes. Throw leftovers & some dessicant in a rod holder with a rubber gasket, or make your own with PVC pipe. If you're really worri...

Re: Stainless never shines

I am getting the advice I asked for. Maybe start listening to it, we are trying to help. You are friggin cooking it. You said you listened to the advice but instead started playing with torch angle. Forget all the settings you are using. Turn up the amp to the max on the machine. Argon 15-2...

Stick a fork in it, it's cooked.

Looks like you shut off the argon while it was still glowing cherry red.

Hi Xryan yes a Dynasty DX200. Very happy with it despite having initial issues with it as discussed in one of my first posts with getting an arc to start. Here is a bit of recent 'work'. I decided my old van needed some cup holders. Ralph, are those real Kiwi sheepskin covers next to the new cuphol...

Re: Measuring Arc On Time

You said DX200, do you mean a Dynasty 200DX? You have other things to worry about, like making quality welds. You are going to REALLY have to work to overheat the machine. Like you said, how long are you ever at max amperage. Even then it doesn't just let out the magic smoke and die, it will throw a...

Re: Optrel Helmets?

I have both Miller Digital Elite as well as Optrel e684. For tig, I don't think there's a better option than the Optrel with it's auto shade mode it can change as you weld from higher to lower amperage. Sweet.

Re: Tig Brazing Bronze Prop

I highly doubt that your prop is brass. MOST likely it is bronze or what Mike said what is commonly referred to as "Nibral" (nickel/bronze/aluminum). It's not just used for big ship screws that he probably is referring to but small stuff as well (sail boats/ski boats/sport fishing, etc. No...

Re: When Do You Guys Change Your Bottle

I'm not saying to weld with crap gas. I'm saying crap gas is unacceptable when it's no dry. Throwing out $6 of gas in the bottle is unacceptable. Do you throw out wire spools when there is 4lbs left? I'd expect a free bottle, that was filled properly. Espically for those guys who aren't making money...

Re: When Do You Guys Change Your Bottle

I don't change bottles until I can't get the flow I want, usually when it drops below 15cfh . You guys are definitely getting screwed if you're tossing out tanks with 200 psi in them. I'd be expecting a free fill.

12 seconds is an eternity. Going through an 80 ft bottle in a day is a LOT. you were probably using the gas 2-3 times more than you needed. With a gas lens and no bad drafts you should be able to use 10CFH. $47/yr ain't too bad, I've seen lots at $15/month. I just did a a day's worth of Tig on these...

best, cheapest, fastest way is:

Step 1: VERY IMPORTANT - ear plugs, ear muffs, goggles, face shield, fully covered with no skin exposed.

Step 2: Break out the circular saw with a 0 degree rake high tooth count carbide blade.

Re: Flowmeter Preset PSI vs Torch Cable Length?

Or you could go the easiest way and buy shielding gas flow tester for $15ish. Basically just a ball flow meter with a rubber funnel . Hold your torch straight up, press the meter on and read the ACTUAL CFM at your torch.
