Re: SS - Tig and backer material question

run a bead from the back side. Yes. This. Unless you absolutely can't get the torch inside, it's waaaay easier than trying to go full penetration without a gap or feather edge fitup (and those aren't easy to do well as a beginner either). Let it cool in between frontside and backside passes and you...

Re: Tig welding on tubing and round parts

adding filler to process tubing? that's kinda a nicht-nicht. Even if you eventually want to add filler, I'd start by doing a fusion weld by cup walking. As already stated, as little pressure on the tube as you can manage is the key ti success. Too much and you'll slip, too little and you'll slip, pr...

Everlast Voltage-Amp Curve

Has anyone ever seen a Voltage-Amp curve for any of the Everlast welders? I've poked around, but can't seem to find anything. I have a Powerarc 200ST, that I generally like, except for the auto arc control feature. Just curious what its V/A curve might look like when you push in and activate its dig...

Re: First Timer

You can use around the same welding amperage with a 3/32 7018 rod as you do with a 1/8 6011/6010. I've found it's around 90 amps. I've usually start at ~120 amps with a 1/8 7018, but usually end up bumping that up to 125 or more. I'm seriously a beginner too and sometimes make some really poo-lookin...

Re: First Timer

New to welding. I have a Powerarc 200ST. I was practicing yesterday. I ran some lincoln e6011 3/32 and e7014 3/32. The 6011 rods would burn really fast and would turn off on me. Couple of time the rods stuck and turn red really quick. I was running about 80 amps. The 7014 rods i had trouble keeping...

Re: Vertical 7018 1/8

I found running little circles (like really little, maybe just a little bobble from side to side) and really pushing the rod into the puddle helped me make nice vertical stringers using 7018. Like push the rod in so you occasionally feel the flux tapping or dragging on the base metal. Also, allowing...

Re: Voltage/current curves

I collect old aircraft generators and they can be set up similar to the earlier engine driven welders. http://www.api-assembled.com/design/tech/welder/welder.htm As to how these machines change voltage I don't know. They have ranges of amperage, then fine control is done with voltage. At lower volt...

Re: Inverters and 6010

You have to hold a very close arc length. Once I got that through my thick head it runs ESAB's 10P-Plus 6010 like a dream. It Runs ESAB's Atom Arc 7018 very very nice! ... I've started a few rods in my time. The adjustable arc force is fun! Again not really needed tho! Thanks for your $0.02. I kind...

Re: Inverters and 6010

Blue Diver why not go ahead and buy the Dynasty? I don't think you'll find a better Tig welder. Then buy an Everlast PowerArc 300. You get adjustable hot start, and arc force. They run 6010 fantastically! http://www.everlastgenerators.com/product/tig-stick/powerarc-300 So, just to reiterate, you'd ...

Hi Everybody!

I got bit by the welding bug 15 years ago while in college, but never pursued it as anything more than a hobby or a tool to fall back on when something broke around the shop. Yeah, I was basically a junkyard fabricator. Guilty as charged...
