Re: Tungsten's for Aluminum Tig Welding Alustar by Wolfram

I have used a CK230 Flex for quite a few years and have had great luck with it, I love the adjustability it has. I would like to try out their Flex-loc heads one of these days as well.

This ones pretty cool, not the size you want to make but might be good for some ideas.

Re: Help deciding please. Bandsaw/dry cut saw

My brother picked up one of those small 4x6" bandsaws that swivel like a Ellis for his cabin a couple of years ago and he said it works great. I'll get a hold of him to see what brand it is. At his shop he uses a big JET and cold saw as well, I used to have a Scotchman cold saw 12" and it ...

Very Interesting, 20,000 feet, that's a lot of dry sump tanks! I would love to see a pic or two of your work. :)

A drop or two of vinegar on it, if it's magnesium it will react with aluminum it won't.

Re: Tig aluminum splatter

Raise your amperage up, use 2% Lanthinated and try using 60 HZ instead of 120hz. Your arc may not be quite as constricted but you'll have more heat into the weld.

Re: How to confirm Argon is contaminated

Have you tig welded with it prior to getting your tank of argon? Just wondering if worked prior to getting a new bottle of argon? If you have verified that there is the proper flow coming out of the cup and no air leaks any where I would try another bottle of argon.

Wondering if I should use filler rod or MIG wire on this stuff. clear lenses, do you mean a cheater lens? As for filler you could use either, wha...

Re: Help in deciding which tig welder to buy

I picked up a PrimeWeld a few months back, only used it once to verify that it worked and took it up to our cabin to use for odd jobs. It seemed to have a nice arc on both DC and AC, HF is a little weak but for $775.00 bucks it's no bad at all. Granted I only used it once but I didn't think the foot...

I have a 4 x6" band saw that I bought from production tool about 20 years ago and it has sure come in handy over the years. I up dated to a Ellis 1600 last year and took my 4 x 6" up to our cabin where it still gets a lot of use, sure beats a hack saw! :) The only time I use any lube is wh...

Re: Differences in machines and welding ability

Jon, All the bells and whistles are nice to have and do come in handy, it's not to say that a ole tried and true transformer machine can't be used to put out nice looking welds. A couple of friends have Syncrowave 250 and 351's and I swear some of their welds look robot like, like you said it's more...

Here are a couple of Jodies video's showing what CJ was talking about, Jody looks like he ever so slightly move back and up while adding filler, Iv'e tried it and it does help me as my hands are not as steady as they once were. If you have any 1/8th setting around that would help you achieve better ...
