What causes this?!?!?!

So I was welding yesterday and now again tonight and I’m having issues with the arc start, it’s like it just electrifies and arcs up and down the tungsten. I have not changed my setup one bit aside from sharpening a new price of tungsten (white) and starting to weld. I have been welding with these s...

Re: Tungsten Storage?

If you want to spend some money I have a buddy that makes and sells ceramic tungsten holders and back caps. shayspec.com otherwise some 1/2” threaded pipe with a couple pipe caps works fine.

Re: Aluminum welding issue

Your balance is too low. You probably want to run at 30% in your machine (I think the Everlast displays balance in reverse to my Dynasty, I run 70%). Try that and see. If your tungsten is tearing apart and you do have gas flow, it’s usually a case of AC Balance. Ok great thank you I’ll start there.

Aluminum welding issue

Ok so I have an everlast 325EXT with an everlast water cooler. I’ve had it for 8 months or so and I absolutely love it. It’s a lot more machine than I’m used to and I think when I’m welding aluminum I might have my settings a little off. I’ve used both gas lense and collet body and notice that the t...

Re: 4 1/2” grinder wire wheels

I already use Walter zip wheels and flap discs so it no surprise that they would make good wire wheels and paint removal products. Just wasn’t sure if those were worth it but it seems like I’ll have to invest in some more Walter products! Thanks everyone!

4 1/2” grinder wire wheels

Hello, so with the type of work I do I always have to clean the paint from the weld joint. Other than a wire wheel I cannot think of anything that is faster to do this. The metal is 16-22ga so I can’t just take a grinder or a flap disk to it so unless someone has a better option for cleaning paint w...

SSC! You won’t regret it. I have one for one of my machines and it’s very well made and super smooth. When the pedal on my main machine starts acting up I’ll be getting another SSC for it as well.

There is a company out of Colorado that weld bungs and caps of all types called Coyotegear.com that’s where I get all my weld in bungs and caps for the tanks I weld. The bungs I get are 1 1/2x 12 thread.

Re: How much of a problem will this be? Fuel tank

Easiest way is toset the tank up so it's very stable and fill it with water to just below your cut line. Cut it with a sawzall or something that doesn't make sparks. Remember that water and electricity don't play well together. Once you have cut the top or bottom off either salvage the top or botto...

Re: How much of a problem will this be? Fuel tank

Welding fuel tanks is what I do, I’ve welded close to 1000 and thats not an exaggeration. That being said everything I do is gasoline so I have no experince with diesel. Being that the tank is aluminum you’re at an advantage like others have stated you can clean it out with water and soap without th...

Re: Moving out of state. How do i secure a job?

I have moved across the country twice and from my experience most places will do phone interviews initially and if they like you, you will have to meet in person for a second meaning you'll have to fly there or drive. In my case I drove in for my interviews. Its a lot to invest in only a potential j...

you can never have too much extra material lying around for those odd jobs that come in or things you want to build. I will occasionally scrap stuff but only if its been sitting around for a long time.

Just throwing this out there for you, even though you would prefer using your right hand to trigger the current control as well as the tig rod, what about something you can use with your mouth freeing up both hands to do what they are meant for while welding. Of course something well insulated and w...

Practice practice practice! It’s been a while since I’ve walked the cup but when I do I like to start at the 6 o clock potion and work up and around. Usually only have to reposition once or not at all depending on if I have room. I’m sure there are others that can give you some better pointers but t...

I use all of the furick cup sizes and I have never had a flashing issue. Are you using the titanium shield on it? It’s possible depending on the helmet you have that it’s not letting enough light hit the sensor to make your helmet darken. I had a speedglas 9100X and I just switched to a 9100XXi. Als...

Re: Jumbo Gas lens versus Medium gas lens dillema!

For ally welding I use a 5 or 8, 3/32” for most of it. 1/8” tungsten when thickness demands. Learn on mild steel. Get your basics right. Then go to ally. Then to stainless. Stainless is VERY TRICKY and for steel, I use an 8 or a 12. You don’t need the smaller lenses and tungsten did you have a qual...

Re: Jumbo Gas lens versus Medium gas lens dillema!

You can weld aluminum with Pyrex cups. You cant walk a Pyrex cup on aluminum because they will crack. Let me rephrase, most Pyrex manufactuers recommend they not be used for aluminum. Can you yes, I have but I want mine to last so I use the standard ceramic for aluminum. To each their own. Interest...

Re: Which Everlast Tig Welder should I purchase?

Both of those machines will weld thin metal almost identically. It’s the thicker material that one will shine over the other as far as amps go. I just purchased the 325 EXT and I am very pleased with it. The 210EXT is obviously not going to be able to handle much over 1/4” but it offers a lot more c...

I like to have a little bit of everything for odd jobs so I have a range of cups for gas lenses I use my 8 most oft e time and go up from there depending. Re: Argon gas quality?

It’s the washer causing the issue. Like stated before it looks like it has a zink coating. It is pretty common for most washers to have a coating to help prevent corrosion which usually makes them difficult to weld. Try and grind all the edges and the faces of the washer and try again, I bet you’ll...
