Best Boot for welding?

It's come the time where I am gonna need new boots sooner than later... I have always had chippewa/redwing logger boots, they are comfortable for most types of work but not too great working in a shop always on concrete floors, and seem a little bulky on the foot pedal. I'm looking for input on what...

thanks for the input, he said 1000$ and that is has been hardly used. I would probably go with a smaller ck torch similar to the one I have at work.

Another question I have is can you hook up a water cooler to the 186? I know you can with the everlast

Thoughts on Thermal Arc 186 AC/DC as first machine purchase

I'm looking to purchase my first welder for at home/side jobs. I currently weld for work and use a watercooled miller syncrowave 250. reason i am asking about this welder is because my uncle has one in his shop barely used that he said he would sell me. I'd like to start taking on side jobs and buil...

Looking for any suggestions for my situation

Hey, my name is Dave, i'm 23 and in a little bit of a bind I guess. So, back in 2012 I was going to a community college that originally started off as a trade school and had a really good repuation and job placement program, I was in the integrated manufacturing / welding program and after I finishe...

Re: Shredded tungstens welding Aluminum with mixed AC/DC

How are you grinding/cutting your tungsten to size? someone once told me that if you are using pliers or a tool to cut or snap it it may create small stress fractures in your tungsten and will split the ends while welding AC. The fix was to use a cut off wheel to cut to size then grind it. my tungst...

Re: Anyone here weld inconel?

I will definitely try a weaving pattern next time, usually these inconel welds don't get that stack of dimes look unless i stay in one spot for a few second. (which is what happened here since I was moving so slow)

Re: Anyone here weld inconel?

Thanks for all that input and knowledge! I work with inco 600 and yes I am using inco 82 filler rod. I grind down the surface the best I can l, but can not get to the inside to clean, these retorts are constantly being heated up in furnaces to 1900° and put back in a cooling chamber, so they crack o...

Anyone here weld inconel?

Hey all! Looking for some input on a little bit of my work. I work at a Praxair up in Maine, we do surface coatings here and work with a lot of furnace stuff/retorts. I mostly weld inconel here, and got the job with no prior knowledge about the metal and no one to really teach me about it or give an...

Re: Recommendations for TIG gloves.

I use these for an all around glove and they have lasted longer than the last pair of miller tig gloves I had. I weld around 180 amps max and heat hasn't been an issue. On my second pair as of today. http://www.millerwelds.com/products/welding_protection/hand_body/welding_gloves/performance/metalwor...

Re: Problem changing torches on Miller Syncrowave 250

I have the amperage control set to panel instead of remote, same with output contractor. Tried unplugging the switch and still nothing. Was hoping it would be a convienient enough switch that I could use the remote when doing bench work and disable it for out of place jobs.

Problem changing torches on Miller Syncrowave 250

I work with a Miller Syncrowave 250 with a #20 size watercooled flex torch with pedal control. I do a lot of jobs where I have to work around things or up on ladders where the pedal doesn't really come in handy, so I ordered myself a watercooled CK20 torch with the gas control on it. Switched the to...

what is going on with this?

So I was doing some flat runs today working on my arc length and torch angle, on what I believe is just carbon or mild steel. Running around 150-175amps, pure argon, 20 CFH, 2% thoriated 3/32 tungsten, #7 cup with gas lens. Not sure if it is from running beads consistantly or if something else is go...

Thanks Len, waiting to see from my work If they would consider picking one up for me, seems to make more sense than rigging up a set up to use the foot pedal with.

Re: Best Watercooled Torch with switch/amp adjustment

any tips on how to set up a synrowave for scratch start. I have only ever used a foot pedal TIG welding. Do I need to get a torch with the gas wheel on it? Setting up scratch start may be my best option right now. Have tried before and just starts burning really bright not controlling the arc and no...

Best Watercooled Torch with switch/amp adjustment

Looking to get a switch or a torch with an amperage adjuster knob or something like it. have seen it on aircooled torches but I run watercooled on my miller syncrowave 250. Mostly want it for the jobs when im inside a cover and have to rig up the foot pedal on my knee or in some uncomfortable positi...

Re: Tungsten Sharpeners

Did not read through all the posts but at my shop, we have a TechSouth hand held tungsten grinder that has a diamond wheel in it, has an attachment to put the tungsten through so it hits the wheel at the right angle and sharpens it in seconds. Was already here when I started working here but I just ...

I also work in a jet engine plant and I have to deal with some of the same stuff. I repair some of the furnace racks that we use to coat turbine compressor parts. We have some of the same CODEP processes that use powder. Most of our powder process uses mild steel trays and we just scrap them and re...

sadly this isn't any sort of legit fabrication shop. they wont spend the money or want to waste the time doing anything extra to weld these so I'm just looking to tips and options, I don't back purge them and I barely have the space to bring them inside the weld booth.
