Re: Plasma Guides

Yeah it's a sg55 torch. Not much money to buy, I was going to DIY but that's prob a better/cheaper option.

Voltage spikes? Measuring arc voltage..

I've been inspired by the video where Jody maps out the different wire speed settings, as my old transmig has no chart/etc and I just play with it until it works. Next step was to measure the voltages on all the taps. I know about the higher ocv, so was going to measure min voltage while throwing an...

Plasma Guides

I was cutting some heavy (~8mm) angle iron today with my 50A plasma. Due to the shape I was a bit limited on what I could use as a guide. On my torch it has a tapered nozzle, so I found as I ramped up the bar I was using as a guide and it tended to wander. Poor effort! Anyone made some sort of paral...

Re: Let's talk extension cords while welding...

You can do the sums pretty easily if you know the cross section of the cable to see what the volt drop is. If the OEM says 10% aim for 5 so you've got a little extra.

Like all things more copper more $, but you can always run twin domestic cables..

Re: 3M Speedglas helmets

With the heavy welding at work in some unpleasant locations all the guys now run speedglas with adflo. Bloody tough bits of kit, but very different to your aim. At least you know it'd last forever.

Re: Remote Wire Feeders

Just spoke with cigweld, and apparently there are all sorts of issues with the feeder control on the 255's - need custom pcb's etc plus poor spares availability :( They apparently configured it different to all the rest. Speaking with a couple of other repair shops it's going to be ~$1200 to get som...

Re: Weldall Type Rods?

Thanks for the advice guys! I'll go for some 309's then.

I priced up the 15 rod blister pack of weldalls, and they cost within $5 of a kilo of 309L's. Expensive!

Weldall Type Rods?

I've never played with dissimilar metals, but I've been offered some 8mm stainless (magnetic) plate to make a benchtop. I wouldn't normally go stainless, but hey if its available  Was just going to use some 50x50x4 or similar mild steel legs. My fuzzy recollection is that most stainless rods sh...

Re: 7014's in Australia

Second hand oven has arrived, so no excuses any more. I'm going back to basics and going to pad beads. I can get Lincoln Easyarc rods for ~$AU120/20kg of 2.5mm which seems better than what I've been paying ($50+ for 5kg). Think I'll go the E7018-1's, but can also get 6012, 6013, 7016. Assume they'll...

Re: 7014's in Australia

Thanks Mike.

I've got a couple of boxes of 16tc's but was under the impression that they needed an oven if not consumed in one session... Will give them a shot!

7014's in Australia

I've heard a lot of people aren't fans of 6013's, but the majority of rods here seem to be either 6013's or 7018's. After being recommended 7014's I had a lot of trouble finding some here. So far the Ferrocraft 21's are the only rod's I've found, they're OK but if anyone can make other suggestions I...

Remote Wire Feeders

Hi, I have been reading for a while and now have a question. I'm looking to expand my fleet, and have been offered a Transmig 255 transformer GMAW (MIG) power source (victor technologies, sold as Cigweld in Australia). The old 195 I have is hammered and the cost of all the bits (that are still avail...
