Re: HELP Mig horizontal plate test

Tight circles and make sure to clean between passes, A LOT. Mig wont penetrate without it being clean metal, and my preference is the hotter the better

Re: 6010 Restarts

Ive always been told that feathering all starts/stops is the right way to do an open root, but quite often we all take short cuts. When Im feeling lazy and dont feather, I just make sure to start my next weld back between 1/4 and 3/8s back and push through. It gets the weld hot and usually ties in p...

Re: Feedback on vertical weld still student

First off how did your test go? Second I recommend putting a little weave motion or upside down U motion to your beads. it helps me to keep in time and the weld tends to come out a little flatter without the hump in the middle like yours did here.

Re: Failed FCAW tests for lack of fusion

Don't beat yourself up too bad man, lack of fusion is generally used by xray techs to mean a bunch of things. A lot of times all it was was a shadow in the film, sometimes from the cap. Saying that, I usually run my fc with more wire than that. I like it hot though, so I usually run more voltage as ...

Re: Got a question for the big pipe welders

Yessir i plan on using all wire for this job. more than likely, .035 hard wire for a root and using .045 fc for a hot pass and im thinking of going to 1/16 fc for fill and cap. the bevels are gonna be 30-35 degree bevels. what ever is factory and whatever the bevel machine gets set for, always varie...

Re: 4G plate issues

Im sure you do the same thing but what i learned always helps on heavier tests like that is to let it cool down before capping. especially doing overhead cuz it will try and fall real quick

Re: WELD TEST

As far as I know, plate can be used to develop weld procedure tests but not individual qualifications. A 1" plate test can qualify a weld procedure to through most sizes and thicknesses but the usual test for a welder is the 2" xxx heavy wall in a 6g position to qualify all sizes and thick...

Re: WELD TEST

Not to sound like an ass but is that a serious question? A plate test will only qualify a welder to weld on plate. It takes a pipe test to weld on pipe

Got a question for the big pipe welders

Im trying to figure out how long would it take to weld out a 72" x 3/4" fit-up. ive welded 3/8"s wall before but i had a sub-arc that did the fill and cap, and i dont have that luxury this time. i remember fit-up and weld-out taking 6-7 hours, so im assuming the heavier wall will take...
